    Hello everyone,

I've for about one year now a Asus K42Jv and time has come to clean it.
It is currently under w7 Home Edition and I'd like to install a w7 Pro Edition.

I'd like to do a clean install but I'm a bit lost with all those Asus Application and Drivers I found here : ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Pilotes et téléchargements K42Jv
I don't want to install all the asus application, they are way too heavy but I don't want to miss the install of an important application.
Some friend told me that W7 would install by itself most of the drivers, if my computer is connected to internet while the instalation, is that the best way to do ?
My computer has a double graphic card (nVidia and Intel) and choose which one is the best depending of what I'm doing. I was wondering how I should do to keep this working after my new install ?! Same wonder about Power4Gear Hybrid which is a battery saving program.

I didn't find any post related to the K42Jv on the forum, if there is one answering to my question please let me know.
What should I install, what should I not ?

Please, excuse my english, I'm french!

    Thank you !

From the ASUS site you will definitely need the ATK driver, webcam driver, and bluetooth driver. You should also use their graphics driver, unless you have found a modified one from another source. You may need the LAN and wireless drivers if windows does not have them already.

You can find P4G hybrid here: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download P4GHybrid

That is found by visiting ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Pilotes et téléchargements and clicking "Sélection manuelle du nom de modèle" and then "Notebook" and then "Apps"

For the rest, check out the bloatware guide and decide for yourself whether you want them installed: http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus/380681-asus-utility-bloatware-guide.html

    Thanks a lot !

The topic you linked is exactly the kind of topic I was looking for !

Last question. I have to partition in my hard drive, one for the OS and one for my data. Will I be able to choose where I want to install my new w7 (in the OS partition, where my w7 Home is) or will the two partition merge together automatically ?

    Thanks again !

Yes you should be able to keep your existing data partition, just make sure you don't touch that partition when you go to install windows. You can choose which partition to install to.

You may have a recovery partition, that would be the first partition (not visible from windows). Just make note of that if you see more than 2 partitions during setup. Keep the last one, which should have your data on it.

Of course you should back up your data first, just in case. ;)

Yeah you can delete it if you want. Before you do that you might want to make a set of recovery DVDs using the ASUS Ai Recovery Burner software. This will allow you to reset the machine to factory settings if you want to sell it or pass it on later.

You could delete it after installing, but then you would have empty space that isn't part of any partition. You could then use a tool like easeus partition manager home edition or gparted to expand your system partition.
