Yesturday, my laptop just shutdown and I never could boot it up again. I wouldnt even get any power-up and when Id plug in the AC, Id hear a "squeaking" sound coming directly from the AC input (or within an inch from it).

Im wondering if there's a new mobo I can upgade to, that would fit the casing, or even, buy the "spare part" casing for it (and place the Z71V LCD in the frame).

It would have to accept centrino, the Nvidia Go6600, ram, etc.

Reason I ask is because I'd like to be able to get a dual-core CPU eventually and the Z71V mobo doesnt support it.

OTHERWISE - Anyone has a working Z71V mobo for sale? :p

What makes you so sure it's the motherboard? Sounds more like a power supply or some kind of power issue to me. If it were the motherboard you would still get a power light and some activity but no bootup (in MOST cases, not all). Check your battery too, some older laptops won't boot if the battery dies.

Im sure its the motherboard because if it was a failure on the power supply's side, we'd need my TWO batteries and AC adapter to simultaneously die (considering i was on battery for 2 hours before and started charging later for 30 minutes before the whole system shut down)

The motherboard failure is definitively straight at the begging of the power conversion. Every power source is regulated on the board before being sent to ANYTHING else (LEDs, fans, whatever). That failed and I cant find a burnt capacitor/semi-conductor to replace.

I went to the e-store and got a mobo Priority Fedexed to me.

    Thanks for the reference above.

alk.... Did you get it working OK??
Would it be possible to put a i945 mainboard in the Z71 case?
Or a motherboard that actually supports Express Card vs the blank filler now?
