I've been drooling at the Sony SZ12 series with full-hd display, very portable, under 1.5kg and the works.

    Only missing USB3.

But I would prefer an Asus notebook.

Does such a beast exist in the Asus range?

There are so many options that I'm confused.

Especially the different region/screen versions make scanning for the laptop really difficult.

    I'd preffer buying in Europe.

Any help appreciated from the local Asus gurus.

Please tell me why you would prefer an Asus over a Sony?

Because Asus are a better, more reliable, cost-affective company as apposed to Sony's overpriced lines?
The answer to your question is, as far as I know as of yet, such a machine doesn't exist. I will happily be proven wrong though :)

I second that motion, they are very overpriced...sony is NOT what it use to be when it commanded those kind of prices

if you look around the net you'll see lots of complaints on them and sony seems to turn a blind eye to it like oh well not our problem

Just a personal preference on styling, but also when looking at overall return/warranty rates that I've seen. Would prefer Toshiba overall reliability, but I dislike their laptops otherwise.

Also, the SZ top range models, while nice, are a bit out of my price range.

Mind you, I'm writing this on 2006 BTO premium carbon SZ and it has served me well, but it's time to retire it.

So, without making this a Brand A vs. Brand B thread (it's just a personal preference, that's all)....

Is there a Full-HD portable (below 2kg) Asus with USB3 on the market or on the horizon?

I own a Asus W3J still running strong but it's definitely time to upgrade, I'd also like an answer to your question, Vasra. I don't mind sacrificing on board screen resolution, but would like full HD if I connect it to my monitor to play games.

Oh, I forgot to add, that it needs to have nVidia Optimus.

I love the switchable graphics in my current Sony SZ. I have the best of both worlds: decent 3D speed and long battery life.

The only Asus variants that *might* fill the requirements on most fronts are:

    N53JF
    - Core i5
    - 1920*1080 screen option
    - USB3 option
    - but weight is 2.7kg (sigh)

I guess only Sony can cram all the stuff well under 2kg.
