    The g1..rocks!!..ahem.

    1. Well I will start off with the main problem. My wireless doesn't seem to be working properly. Sometimes it will connect straight away with no problem, generally right after my system has started. But then eventually, after any given time, it will disconnect. But when I check the available wireless connections, it says "not connected" on my network, yet when i click on it for some reason it asks me if i really want to disconnect? so its like it is connected but not at the same time. My signal is also fine so i dont know why it keeps disconnecting either, i have given it access permissions within the router also.

I have a netgear DG834pn wireless router. I have disabled all security options on the wireless to make sure and the problem still persists. I have also tried using the intel pro set software to no avail. Naturally when i press disconnect i get the popup asking if i do really want to disconnect.

    2. Is there a way to possibly control the fan on the G1? I dont like power4 gear, it seems limited in its features compared to other software i have seen. I tried NHC but for full functionality i believe i need a ACPI profile or something of the sort.....and i have no idea how to make one.

    I hope i make sense. Thanks :).

    1. Will the G1 connect to other router sources elsewhere for you? Does your router still work correctly with other notebooks you or friends might have? If yes to both, check your firmware version for the router and update if necessary to see if that improves the G1 connectivity.
    2. No. You need to either build NHC's ACPI profile for the G1 (if you know how to do such things, I don't either) or wait for someone else to; I wouldn't try to adapt an existing one since the G1 is a completely new model compared to the existing model profiles. BUT, fan control can get you into trouble using NHC - there have been reports of this conflicting and turning the fan off instead on some Asus models. You're correct, P4G only manages the power profiles, i.e. beefed up version of Windows power control...nothing else.

Thanks for the response :). Mmmm the fan thing isnt major i guess.

But the wireless, yeah the router has the latest firmware installed. Other computers work fine using it. Im bringing my laptop to a mates place and am going to test it there since there arent really any other wireless sources around the place.

I'm having exactly the same issue with my G1 and Netgear WGT624 router. Actually I have two laptops and my other laptop has no wireless connectivity issues.

I've tried everything so far but the issue is so random that I can't figure out what's causing it. I've installed latest intel drivers, I've let windows manage the connections, changed channels on the router, but still for no reason sometimes wireless connection goes off/on and eventually locks on connect while it's not connected. Same issue cerebral is having.

Thanx loopty, I have actually changed power management on the wireless card yesterday. They issue did reappear once but I'll have to do a bit more testing to be sure.

I have a similar - though not identical wireless problem. About 10% of the time on bootup it just won't connect properly, failing to get an IP address. My other laptop has never had this issue and I've tested then side by side so I know it must be an issue at the G1 end. (my router is a year old netgear - can't remember the model).

What is similar is the apparent randomness of the problem. I thought that perhaps it was happening at locations in the house where the signal was weaker - but I wonder if power management might also be a factor. I will test this out - thanks for the tip and the link.

hmm i went to my friend's house and it worked fine on his wireless. when i got home the problem came about again when i tried to make a network bridge with the wired network adapter. So i figured i wont make one as it seemed to have started it on that occasion. I then pressed the "set up a home or small office network" and for some strange reason i haven't had a problem since. But i can't be certain of it not returning :(

The wireless card seems to be very picky.

No one with a G1 would happen to know how to make one of those profiles for NHC would they??

I find RMClock + P4G is a good combo when on battery. 1) my laptop is undervolted and locked to 1000mhz by RMC. 2) P4G reduces the processor to 25% meaning its even less power hungry!

Web + word is easily handled by the above config with my laptop (see sig). But when plugged in i have no use for it so use RMClock only.

Anyway, sorry for goin off topic. Hope you sort out your problem. Have you tied undervolting?
