It is the game retail companies play. It goes on sale for a while and afterwards the sale ends. Wait a few weeks and it is back on sale again. Companies want you to get really excited when it is on sale so you buy it. Every time they will claim "this" is the lowest sale we will ever have.

find out what the stock code is on the newer G1 for 1799. I bet it isnt gonna be the same as the one they had for 1650. And ask if the 1799 G1 comes with bag, mouse and 2yr warranty now or not?

Retailers only need to have 1 G1 at 1650 to advertise it country wide.

The BB internal stock code for the $1650 G1 was = G1-AK020C-B

The days of bait and switch are dead. Too many law suits. Best Buy only sells what customers want. Not many customers wanted the mouse and bag because those are cheap. I found good wireless mice for $17 and good bags for $29.99. The two year warranty is nice, but it is not worth the extra $150.

    No they are not!
If you think so then youve been out of the market for way too long.
As i said and ill say it again a retailer only needs to have 1 product in-stock at time of print in order to advertise it in any media (tv, print, radio)
I know this because im a marketing major.
Besides, BestBuy is notorious for minimal quantity marketing. Why?? Maybe its because they have over 1100+ stores countrywide. So for any product BB buys from a wholesaler they have to buy a min of 1100+ just to stock 1 in each store.
And at xmas almost every sale item in the BB flyer or on site will have minimal quantities. Most times BB will even go as far as state they only have 10 or 20 such item in stock. Its not bait and switch but rather its your old school thinking.

again, old school thinking and fear mongering

You have no idea people didnt want the mouse and napsack. You have no data to back that up do you??? no you dont!

Well, one of your other posts in the Dell forum promotes or suggests extra warranty/service plan. So what?? Added warranties are good for your Dell and not for anyone else??
You even falsely quoted a 1yr accidental as $100 when it is indeed $150 and you were off on the 2yr by saying its $200 when its really $300.
If the buyer was to extend the BB Asus G1 from 1yr to 2yrs it would easily be worth $100-150.
We can always subtract your numbers of $29.99+$17 off of the $150 diff and total what those values are but were splitting hairs.

The best feature when buying any used product is warranty (as long as its transferable)
The trade/upgrade cycle in the consumer computer industry in the following yr or two will most likely be the shortest ever. (as predicted by marketing analysts) And thats because of the new OS Vista, DX10, and other hardware companies trying to rush out products to beat the current compability issues.
With this all said if he sells his G1 in a yrs time you better believe the potential buyer will edge more towards the G1 because of the extra yr warranty.

The Logitech mouse is worth $49.99 and Targus back pack between around $40~$70.
A one year extended warranty is worth $50?.... answer = YES.

I also posted an earlier post that said Dell Inspiron warranties are overpriced. I did not know Inspiron warranties were that overpriced. Dell Latitude warranty coverage is $150 for 3 years of both regular and accidental coverage. Technically the accidental coverage is $150 and the standard 3 year warranty comes with the laptop. Targus backpacks are cheap. You can find similar quality to those for $29.99 at www.eBags.com. Mice are also cheap, you can get that mouse on sale for about $17-$25.

Well either way I purchased this deal and have been very content. The extra accessories and warranty would have been nice but I could find no one with them in stock!

Plus my AMEX gives me another year warranty, and since I seem to upgrade notebooks every 2 years or so this was not a problem with me. However if you can find someone selling for only 150 bucks more (in stock) and has the goodies JUMP ON IT!!

    Just my opinion/advice.

That's good. I do not have enough time to finish this discussion anyways. I have to study for my Anatomy and Physiology final on Monday. I have a job interview tomorrow and I have to finish studying for my Anatomy and Physiology practical next Friday. I will probably not return to NBR until May 4th.

    Wish me luck

P.S. I like your "Raging Bender" reference :D
