I have a month old Asus G1S that's been great so far. Saturday I shut it down and put it in my bag. Monday morning I turn it on and the battery is dead so I plug it in.

On boot it hangs before the windows loading screen can come up. I hear the hard drive making the same three sounds over and over again. So I booted from the recovery dvd that came with the notebook. It loads files from a CD, then you see the normal windows loading screen, then it hangs with the same hard drive sound.

I'm thinking some files were corrupted somehow and it needs a fresh windows install or a low level format.

How is that recovery dvd of any use if it tries to boot from the hard drive after loading files from the dvd? How does this damn recover dvd work, or how is it supposed to work?

Has anyone gotten the recovery to work on their G1S?
Has anyone tried to contact asus for support? I hear it sucks.

    Any ideas would be welcome.

    Thanks.

Might be a HD problem. Sounds hardware related. Also, you have to switch the boot device order after the first restart when installing Vista, I believe. There is a thread on this somewhere.

Ya already changed it to boot off the CD. It loads files from the CD, then you see the normal windows loading screen (that I wasnt seeing before) and I get the same hard drive noise over and over again.

Do you have anything connected on the USB doors? I had the same problem until I discovered that the boot stopped trying to find my external HD connected on the USB door.

I think I fixed it. I had to make a XP cd with the SATA drivers so I could format the partition with vista on it. The partition was showing up as an unknown type. The FAT must have gotten screwed up somehow. Once I used that XP cd to format the part. I was able to pop in the vista recovery CD and run the recovery. Its almost done now.

Its kinda stupid that I had to use a XP CD to format so the vista CD would work. At least I have that CD now if I need to do this ever again.
