I'm loving my new g1, but for some reason although the performance in games is stellar while it's plugged into AC.. it slows down horribly when on battery. I have tried playing around with Power4Gear options as well as WinXP power profiles but with apparently no results.
Does anyone know how to get full (or close to it) performance while running off the battery? Is that possible? It seems the CPU is staying clocked @ 2.0.. I wonder if maybe it's the GPU that's being underclocked.. What apps do you guys use to overclock/check the clock of the 7700 go?
Thanks in advance..![]()

well with ati you can control that but im not sure with nv look for a mobile option in the geforce control area.

ah.. after installing RivaTuner, I was able to unlock some overclocking settings in the NVidia driver utility.
More importantly, when going through it again I saw the option you were referring to: "PowerMizer". This is clearly what was responsible for the lack of performance..
Thanks! -
Sorry, but could you explain precisely how you get 100.00% performance without AC plugged in? (the same performance as you would have gotten if the g1 is plugged) I, too, wish to do this! Thanks.

That's becuase you're not in high performance mode..... You should have super performance (only on ac) and high performance (ac or battery)... both modes are 100% cpu. You could also use NHC (notebook hardware control - download it).
When on battery, by default the gpu profile changes to battery saving modes as well.. -
Dyingduck, I'm fairly certain that the thing that was slowing me down before was the PowerMizer setting. To find it, right click the nvidia tray icon, then click through NVidia Display -> Laptop Display. From there, click the PowerMizer menu option on the left, and on the right drag the "Battery" slider from the far left (Maximum Power Savings) to the far Right - Maximum Performance.
Before I found that setting, I had installed RivaTuner to see if maybe the vid card was being underclocked and if I could change that. After I installed, I noticed that the GPU speeds were always showing "0 MHZ" when I was on battery, and went back to "450/400" when I plugged in AC.. This is obviously some sort of side effect of PowerMizer. Anyhow, after using RivaTuner it seems to have unlocked some overclocking menu options in the regular NVidia driver options. I'm not sure if this also unlocked the PowerMizer menu, or if I just missed it before. Either way, you can find RivaTuner here. -
Thank you, Falstaff. That helps a lot. To answer your question, PowerMizer is there even without RivaTuner. Nonetheless, I will mess around with RivaTuner; is that the problem one would use to overclock one's gpu?

And, how come is at 450/400? Isn't the 7700 suppose to be 450/500? Is anyway to tweak that?

Does anyone know?

Falstaff, thanks for te tip but, i cant see any Nvidia icon on the tray do you have stock drivers? my g1 as delivered never made a change.. if you installed other driver please tell me which one and if you made other interesting mods too ^^
Thnx
