    XP

I had a choice of either OS's and i had previously known about some of the major driver probs with Vista so i bought the XP WME G2
My friend who has the G1 had no choice but to buy it with Vista. He had a few probs finding the right drivers but we had a great idea where he would borrow my G2 recovery disc and all is good for him now hehe

This is old news (only for ones who've already seen it) but its still worth noting
Just some of the games that GameSpy tested with Vista back in July 06

I have Vista and knowing it runs a little slower in games I like some of the new features of Vista enough to keep it for now. I'm hoping that the video drivers will improve in the coming months and close the gap in performance (or better). The current games I play on my G1 are Company of Heroes (plays very well with high detail settings), C&C 3 (a little choppy on high settings but plays well), Supreme Commander (looks great but runs a little slow on the highest settings.) I have definately considered converting to XP but I don't play games but probably 40% of the time and I do like Vista (now that I'm used to it's querks).

I personaly prefer to use XP Pro, I have played pretty much all the popular games on laptops with both XP and Vista.

Medieval 2, BF2142, Company of Heroes, STALKER, FEAR, Supreme Commander, R6 Vegas, C&C3, NFS Carbon, Jade Empire, some older FPS :D

Overall I found that Vista was slower, but still playable. I prefer XP Pro for gaming, but definitely in the future the drivers would be more optimized for Vista, thus making gaming on Vista better.

Even if your notebook comes with Vista, you can go to the Asus website and download the XP Drivers.

I believe hotsizzle is referring to WOW as unable to truly use all the G1's power and such. So the G1 doesn't really break a sweat.

Just as darksun9210 stated above... Vista runs most games FINE... But why settle for a FINE gaming experience when you can have EXCELLENT performance under WinXP Pro specially on the G1??? Vista's so-so "eye candy" just don't justify to sacrifice gaming performance, at least for gamers like me. Maybe I'll change my mind when nVidia releases optimized Vista drivers for the Ge Force 7700. :)

i have a fairly new G1 with vista ultimate and do a good amount of gaming, BF2 and Olivion mostly. Run both on high settings and have not been super happy with the performance; plus, BF2 crashes quite a bit... i have xp Pro as well and am really moving toward changing over to it. Just hope wont be too big of a hassle with drivers, etc.

Just so you convince yourself over the fact that XP is much better than Vista for games, before you uninstall Vista, download and run FRAPS (free) and write down your framerates, or better yet download and run 3DMARK05 and do the same. Then install XP and do the same and you'll see that framerates are much better under XP than Vista.

And you won't have much problems with XP dirvers since all of them can be found on the ASUS Support page.

    Best regards,
    RayanMX

Games won't be optimised for XP forever.
