Ouch, the G1 weighs 7.14lbs. It better be bomb proof.

Build quality looks great, but I prefer a more streamlined look ala Macbook or Thinkpad.

Ouch. Heavy!! But still sexy (for a gamer!). 4800mAh battery - anyone care to guesstimate life on this? (normal usage, browsing the web, office). Anyone read chinese, is it on the review?

Check out all the grease marks on the outside material. Very evident! Looks nice, but I rather have a matte material that doesnt get all filled up my hard grease smudges.

The review itself is kinda not trustworthy. Even the machines r sitting side by side but they din compare it at all. In a matter a fact, they din even mention how well the other machine ran yet using inferior machines to compare it 2. The last sentence really make me sick. "Dell XPS 1710 will have competition when the G2P is out", i say the only competitive thing that the g2p is it's the price, the others not.

babelfish told me a few things. any of these can be wrong but

stock 3d mark 05 score of the g1 is the same as the a8js.

    it claims the g1 has a 1680 x 1050 screen with a 6 ms response time!!!!
I think thats wrong but thats what it says. It might be that he wishes the 1680 screen had a 6 ms response time like the other screen.
I mean think about this, if both machines have a 6 ms ips screen, the g1 has one with higher resolution and its 1800$.....

It says that in his opinion the g1 runs things faster and he would chose it.

Found these two pictures very useful, wish more reviews had pictures like them. Would have prefered the G2P's brushed metalic finish on the G1!

great find, lots of pics, emm the review says the glowing eye has no function, apart from looking cool. 3.2kg is a little heavy and the foot-print is a little larger than I expected.

Sorry...I'm Chinese, but don't know that much Chinese to translate it out, since I left Hong Kong at age four :D.

I sort of agree with you, mew1838, it isn't any more powerful that the A8Js, but you have to admit it looks sleeker and better than the A8Js.

So that eye-ball/glare button in the middle of the mouse buttons have no function? Hmmmm...that's a waste...

    • nVidia Go7700 512MB Discrete Memory (450/800MHz)

    • 15’’ WSXGA (1680×1050) screen
    • LAN, DVI, VGA, S-Video, Firewire, 4 USB ports, Card Reader

    Build and Design

Asus G1P is a 15” gaming laptop. It weights 3.23Kg without battery and 3.8Kg with battery. The build is sold.

    G1P’chassis is developed from A6.

The upper palm rest, keyboard surround and lid are made of carbon fiber.

The two green LED lights on each side of the screen will flash when playing full screen games or watching full screen movies.

    Screen

G1P get a 1680x1050 15” wide screen LCD. The screen is glossy. Pictures and movies are vivid.

    G1P 1680×1050

    G1P 1680×1050 vs. HP 1280×800

The view angles are excellent, even better than G2P. The maximum view angles can reach 160°/140° (H/V). Another review said the view angles are 160°/100° (H/V).

    Speakers
G1P’s speaker is under the laptop, the sound quality is on par with JBL speakers. (I doubt this)

    Performance and Benchmarks

    SuperPI 1M: 23s
    3DMark2005: 4256

    Heat

G1P does a good job at heat control. Following pictures show the temperature of various spots after 4 hours running. After 4 hours, the palm rest is still cool and comfortable to use.

    Keyboard and Touchpad

Keyboard is well build and comfortable to use. The special thing is that W, A, S, D keys get green fluorescent labels. You can easily find those keys in dark.

The glorying eye will light up when the laptop is turned on, but has no other functions right now.

    Input and Output Ports

One the left side is the DVD ROM.

On the right side, there is LAN, modern, S-Video, audio in-out, fiber audio, 1394, card reader and PCI card slot.

On the back is four USB, DVI and VGA port.

    Wireless

G1P gets WIFI (Intel 802.11a/b/g) and Blue Teeth. (The review does not talk about wireless options.)

    Battery

G1P use a 4800mh battery. The battery lasts 1 hour 36 minutes on full load, and 2 hours 12 minutes on energy savings mode.

    Build-in Camera

The build-in camera is 1.3 mega pixels and the quality is excellent.

    Pictures taken by the camera

    Direct Console

Direct Console is a LED display that can display custom information. It can display notebook status, current time, or remind you when you get new email or MSN message. This can be very useful while gaming.

    Time

When a friend sends you a MSN message, his/her id will flash here.

    Custom text

Direct Console can be configured by this bundled software.

    Windows Vista

Windows Vista (both 32bit and 64bit) runs very smooth on G1P.

    Price

The media price is ¥15000. That is US$ 1875. (Usually you can get $100 to $150 off the media price. However, this machine is not on the market yet, so just wait and see. )
