since these two laptops are pretty new, the number of reviews out there are pretty limited (2 for G1, 1 for V1 atm i think)

i really wonna get either one of them, but then there's this one thing that's holding me back: battery life. i NEED at least 3.5 hours of juice (with just one batt) but from the reviews it seems like this isn't really achievable as yet... so i'm just gonna ask in a poll if any of you can achieve this time (EXCLUDING the time when it gives you that 5% (or is it 10%?) warning and wants to shut off)? if yes, under what conditions (like what % brightness, what's on what's off, what tasks are running etc)?

    TIA! :D

    woops i voted wrong lol

yes on the G1 you can get 3 1/2 hours..if you run it on lowest screen you can get closer to 4 hours. (not gaming or running intensive apps)

i cant say for the v1

Well i'm sure you've read my review on the V1JP, if not there's a link in my sig.

Anyways, from my testing, I can achieve 3 hours, with P4G set to Quiet Office mode and 3/16 brightness, WIFI On and doing light browsing and word processing.

However when I switch P4G to Max Battery Mode, the battery miser says it can reach 3 hours and minutes, however there's a huge decrease in performance.

For example, to open MS word in Quiet Office mode, it takes ~4 seconds, but in Max Battery mode it takes ~16 seconds, to me, I rather have the extra performance. But what puzzles me is how the battery misers says 3.5 hours in max battery mode compared to 3 hours in quiet office mod despite the same settings?

However, I think the CPU itself makes up for the difference, actually now thinking about it, it may actually be the GPU...i'm not sure hehe. now i'm confused on why there's a difference. Oh well I will try to look into to the difference between Max Battery vs Quiet Office mode. ;)

    Thanks,

    MysticGolem

We'll there's a few things which caused low amount of votes.

There is a high demand for hte G1, but limited supply, so people who still want one, can't get one yet, untill more and more shipments arrive.

The demand for the V1JP is reasonable, but the price and lack of a Go 7700 and 2GB would also deter people to buying the G1.

Also many may have overlooked this thread. Also many don't really test battery life since they will just not need long battery life since they will be plugging in their notebooks.

    Hi Lord Fawkward,

After an hour and a halfs use this morning on the train I had 65% battery remaining, I've only used the battery once and only got it on Saturday so I might get longer times later but I reckon at the moment that 3.5hours would be the absolute limit.

i know, but then sometimes u won't be able to reach 3.5hrs no matter how hard u try (eg. with an xps m1710) :D

    thanks james for ur input

u guys have pretty much helped me decide. 5v2 (or is it 6v1 because of m477hew's wrong vote?) is good enough for me

my return of my xps m1210 is pending right now. once it goes through i'll get the g1 and join the awesome asus family! :D

    wish me luck!
