Has any G1 owner gotten Vista's ReadyBoost to work using an SD card in the built-in slot? I've tried two SD cards now and neither work.
-
It "works" and by "works" I mean that the computer says Readyboost is enabled. It doesn't actually provide any speed boost though. FYI, I'm using a Lexar Pro card.
-
I've heard that ReadyBoost doesn't do much, but others say it makes a big difference. There's probably different factors that affect how effective it is.
-
I'm a big fan of readyboost, do it. I'm using a sandisk 2gb, and I certainly notice the difference.
-
It might also be a bit psychological. Those that expect to see a difference, see it, and those that expect not to see a difference, don't see it.
Which is to say, probably the effects are not significant enough to bother about it. -
To answer your question, I think some Asus notebooks (mine included) have slow performing card readers from Ricoh. I have tried some very high speed SD cards, but have only been able to get ReadyBoost to work with flash drives. I contacted Asus, who told me to contact Ricoh, who told me to contact Asus. After reading that the benefit isn't that great, I kind of dropped the issue. -
It makes sense that the card reader might be the problem. That's what I was thinking since no card seemed to work.
-
I got it to enable, but I didn't see any noticible gain, so I put the dummy card back in and disabled the windows service. I probably gain as much performance disabling said process/service than the actual gains are.
-
Yep. Certainly a good Vista optimization will get you much further in terms of performance than this ReadyBoost hype.
-
or check this out and see if you still want ready boost and read drive, the test was done with V1S 1GB Turbo Memory:
-
So readyboost actually decreased HDD throughput in virus scan by a factor of 5!!!
OMG -
Unless I'm reading those screens wrong, it looks like ReadyBoost made a significant improvement? It's not clear whether lower or higher numbers are better in the benchmarks shown.
-
Higher numbers = better. So...no.
