Hello everybody, I recently got the G1 laptop and am enjoying it very much, however I have come up on a very annoying problem...

The Fn+F6 key to turn up the brightness has simply stopped working. I can turn down the brightness and use all the other keys just fine. So now I have turned down the brightness on display to a low level and have no way of turning it back up.

I tried looking for a manual way to adjust it, but I cant find anything. The F6 key itself is working so I am praying that it is not a hardware problem. Let me know what you guys think

    Thanks for the help

Keys rarely just stop working, but if all of your other hotkeys work, it's probably not a driver issue there. If one individual key just stopped functioning out of the blue, especially on a new laptop, I'd try to restart and check again. I've seen errors get logged every once in awhile when it comes to the keyboard. If you pull the keyboard out and reseat the cable, which isn't really a big task at all, that'll clear any error in the keyboard. I'd try to restart first though.

I definitely tried restarting the computer, but like I said, the F6 key is still functioning in other programs, so it shouldn't be a hardware problem. I am trying to download the newest driver for the splendid video technology utility, but the **** asus web site won't let me.

Well the issue isn't with the splendid ute - it has nothing to do with brightness.

The ATK100 driver is what controls the power saving features and the hotkeys (on Asus notebooks anyway), and that's the ONLY driver that is related to the brightness hotkey. However, none of the hotkeys should work if that driver got corrupted.

With that said, I'd pop off the keyboard and reseat the cable. Should take 10 minutes if you've never done it before.... 9 and 1/2 minutes to figure out how it comes out.... Let me know if you need some help.

Well I didn't pop off the keyboard, but I did play around with the key and it is now working...strange. Anyways, could you give me a quick explanation on how to take off the keyboard? I'd figure it out myself, but I would probably break something.

    Thanks
