Hi all, first post here :) Anyway, I bought a G1 about 3 months ago, love it so far, but am getting some weird issues. Lately, every once in a while, I'll get some really weird graphics artifacts; the screen flickers with lines (like the image is out of phase) or just goes haywire, usually it's only for a split second. There was one instance, however, that it wouldn't go away, so I opened her up to check some connections. Sealed everything back up and it was running fine.

Suspecting something awry, I ran some stress tests. Everything checked out, no CPU, RAM or GPU errors. But things seemed to be running a little hot.
Here are the temps of the stress tests I just did.

    Ambient temp ~22C
    all stock clocks & voltages
    Idle
    CPU 51C
    GPU 52C
    Load (prime95)
    CPU 70C
    GPU 60C
    Full Load (prime95 & rthdribl)
    CPU 78C
    GPU 78C

I don't know what normal operating temperatures are for these particular laptops, so I have no frame of reference. I tried searching around abit but couldn't find anything specific. Any help is greatly appriciated.

Please post only once in the forums. Thanks.

I think those numbers seem fine. Others will probably have another opinion & a better frame of reference as you state.

If you feel that your notebook gets excessively hot, you could invest in a notebook cooler.

Since you have had your notebook for 3 months, did you find anything blocking the vents? Even a little? Like dust, lint, hair or anything else. If so, use a can of compressed air and blow it out. That would help.

Other than that the temperatures do seem fine under load. Your idle temps are a higher than most other notebooks like 47 degrees for CPU during idle. I don't have a frame reference but generally the idle temps are in the mid to high 40's.

I don't think there is anything wrong, but can you re-confirm you are experiencing artifcating right now? During games? What else?

Those temps are really good actually better than mine, try using a different video driver, I think laptop2go has better drivers. It could be a software problem, something you installed recently or driver issue.I would do a complete reinstall of windows if new drivers dont fix it.If after all that it still has the glitch then its probably a hardware problem.

Sorry about the double post. The first time I submitted the thread I didnt' catch the "you're post needs to be approved by an admin" page as it disappeared quickly. Didn't think it went through so I tried again.

So far there's nothing blocking the vents. I've kept my laptop in damn impecable condition since I got it. I can't reproduce the artifacting; so far it seems to be completely random. I haven't head much time for games lately, and haven't experienced the glitch in them. I did run prime95 and rthdribl for a good solid hour without anything happening though.

I've been using stock drivers, but, I'll try the laptop2go drivers to see if there's any change.

I checked my idle temps after it sat for about 10 mins after coming out of hubernate and it's at a nice 48C. I'm not totally sure if it's a heat related problem; I'm thinking that it may be bad wiring or a loose connection. The problem is akin to what I've seen happen to a normal monitor when the cable becomes damaged.

Thanks for the help thus far guys.

You guys wouldn't happen to have a link to some newer video drivers for this laptop? I can't seem to find any; finding mobile gfx drivers is always a pain. I'm currently running foreware 86.02 (bios ver 5.73.22.49.12)

I just tried to get a screenshot, and, I'm certain that I hit the key in time (the glitch lastest quite a few seconds this time), but the screenshot came out normal. This leads me to believe that it's not a problem with the rendering of the image, but rather some loose/damaged wire between the gfx card and the monitor or some error in the RAMDAC (or whatever it's digital equivilent is).
