Hey all, I'm looking to get my G1 now but I've got a few queries. From a quick bit of browsing it seems that in the US it costs ~US$1900 but here in Australia it's ~AUS$3240. Now, I know our currency isn't that bad :p - US$1900 = AUS$2450 - so I was wondering, are they just evil to us aussies? Or are there a bunch of taxes and import duties etc on it? Also, if I bought it from a US site, would I still get the warranty and service in Australia? I'd also like to upgrade the 160gb 5400rpm hdd to a 100gb 7200rpm.

So, basically, should I buy it from US or Australia? And, if any possible suggestions, where?

P.S. It's not listed on the aussie asus site, but I can buy it from aussie sites... lol

Would recommend you to order the G1 stock and upgrade the harddrive yourselves. Order through US websites if it covers whatever you pay in Australia, I'm sure it does. I'm thinking of ordering from the US as it's not available in Malaysia and I doubt the pricing would be lower than what I shall pay including shipping.

There's a few websites that I know offers international shipping and in no particular order, its:

    www.excaliberpc.com
    www.proportable.com
    www.milestonepc.com
    www.ewiz.com
    www.xoticpc.com
    www.dynamism.com

If I left anything, would someone please add, cheers.

ASUS offeres global warranty wherever you buy their laptops. If you buy it outside australia and have it mailed to you, be prepared to pay for import duties which may bring the overall price more than what you have to pay in OZ =/

i just ordered a G1 from www.excaliberpc.com, i asked them to label it as a gift so i might not have to pay customs, but if so its 10% gst and 5% duty so around $320 extra (still less than you have to pay in Aus).
