I know all the usual problems with the left hand side of the keyboard, but my problem is with the backspace key that squeeks loudly like a mouse every time i press it. It is really, really annoying. I'm assuming that unlike desktop keyboards you can't just pop off an individual key and clean it, so would it be safe to shoot in a tiny bit of WD40 under the key? Or is that a really stupid idea?

Considering the keys are plastic... the springs are plastic... and WD40 is a petroleum product.... I won't go out on a limb and call that a stupid idea in a public forum, but I will say that you probably wouldn't be the first or last to try it. In the end, you'll get rid of the squeak, but probably won't have use of the keyboard very long.

I SERIOUSLY doubt that WD40 would have ANY ill effect on the plastic keyboard. Nonetheless, I would not recommend this tactic because you could easily get WD40 into other parts of the computer.

I have a G1 and I have the same squeak problem with the backspace as you do.
I've used WD40 on my desktop computer keyboard and had not problems so far so like you I'm wondering if I could use it with the laptop keyboard.
