So I've had my G1 for a couple weeks and the screen is starting to mess up. the colors are not right...In games walls have a pink tint to them and they seem to be "wavy" if that makes any sense....This forums background color isn't even either. This all started today. I am very let down right now....What should I do guys? I would post some screenshots but imageshack doesnt seem to want to upload my pictures...I can email them to someone if you would like to take a look.

That's what the ZBD lcd warranty is for...... I've only heard of a handful of people having to use it over the last two years or so, but that's what it's there for. You don't need to ask our advice, you need to call Asus and it'll be taken care of quickly and properly.
-
Try connect to a external monitor to see if you still having the same problem.
-
Well I talked to the people at Asus and they basically just said to send it in...Does this sound like a pixel problem? Anyway, I'm very disappointed. I just spent almost $2000 dollars on this computer and within a month it is already having to be sent in for service. Very disappointing...I guess I should of stuck with Dell. I had much better luck with them. Oh well...live and learn.

I've seen the pink tint problem before on S96J, it's not the pixel problem, it could be:
-RAM, the one I've seen before solved by simply reseat the RAM, I was surprise too.
-Video Card, if that's the case then you need to send it in for replacement. -

Don't dissapointed in yourself, its ok, things happen, going with any brand doesn't give you immunity to problems, even spending more money doesn't mean much either.
You know ASUS makes some of the best 15.4" and 14" performance laptop in the industry, and you made the inform choice to go with ASUS.
I know many people that send their laptops to ASUS to get things fixed and are very happy that the ASUS service in NA it top knotch!
I know a few people with V1J and V1JP and some of them are experience battery wear % problems, and one is sending their brand new 2300$ CAD V1JP for a new screen, due to 1 bright dot pixel.
Sure you lose roughly 1 week with your notebook, or less, but atleast ASUS NA has good turn around and customer service.
Like most, you will feel disspointed in having to send it into repair/service so soon, but that's just reality.
Be happy you own one powerfull laptop, and enjoy it once it comes back from service, you know ASUS gots your back. -
Cheer up mate, ASUS still got your back like what MPC said

Here's a screenshot of the problem. Sorry for such a large file...but I was in a rush.

Just be happy you have the best standard warrarnty in the business..... Asus' fail rate is close to 0.2% in my experience over the last six years, if their fail rate on the G1 was like 30%, I can see you being "disappointed", but it's also my experience that the few systems that seem to encounter early problems as also the same ones that seem to live on for ever. We have the original M1a we imported from Taiwan (which was the first Asus notebook in this hemisphere), that's coming up on six years old and it got a pint of beer spilled on it no more than three weeks after it was imported.
To say you should have stuck with Dell though.... you're just asking for more problems from the Asus gods... that's basically blasphemy -
The screeshot looks fine it's probably the LCD.
P.S. When saving screenshot, save as JPG, it's much small file size, only 100KB vs BMP's 5MB. -
Yep, it's definitely the screen. I booted up my old computer and looked at the screenshot I posted for you guys...looks fine from this computer. Well, off to Asus my G1 goes...any ideas on typical turn around time from Asus?
-
The turn around should be about 1 week.
-
lmao, should have bought a dell?
trust me, you do not want one of those things. the first dell (6000D) I got had a horrible light leakage problem. the second one, fortunately, had a perfect screen.
70% of the time you'll get an ununiformed, light leakaged, and shimmering LCD with horrible contrasts. 20% you'll get a screen with only slight leakage, and 10% u'll get a perfect screen.
And no matter what screen you get from dell, whether it's LG or Samsung or whatever, it's most likely going to have this dim spot on the bottom right corner.
from dell to asus, it's a huge jump. -
Dell goes cheap with their screen. The quality sucks. I was lucky to get an LG screen.. but still those screen is not 100% perfect.

Update:
The problem went away for a little while...but it's back so off it goes to Asus. -
I was unable to look at the picture posted, because it reported a 404 error.
However, about 7 months ago my V6V started showing me pink lines and garbage, when the GPU was being used (games, mostly) and also during the boot screen and while in BIOS. However, normal Windows UI looked normal.
It turned out to be a problem with the GPU, caused by overheating. Or at least that was the reason given why the motherboard was replaced in my notebook. This was in Europe, turn around time was a about 1.5 weeks (they had some kind of public holiday in the Netherlands, where they have the service center here). -
I agree with MilestonePC and others saying that this shouldn't sour your opinion on ASUS. Defects will occasionally occur in new products--most within the first couple months of use--regardless of brand. ASUS clearly stands behind their products through their warranties and will correct this. Their Zero Bright Dot policy is pretty amazing, but their service otherwise is reputed to be excellent as well. Give ASUS a chance to address this flaw, and judge their products and services together.
Justin at PROPortable--how did you help a laptop that you spilled a pint of beer on? -
ASUS offers a very nice warranty despite the fact that they do have numerous flaws and defects in their laptops. Simply comparing the ASUS forums to other forums (e.g. Sony's) immediately shows you that the problems are more numerous compared to people who own Sony VAIO laptops (or it could simply mean a lack of people reporting their Sony problems on top of the fact that there are more ASUS users on NBR than Sony users).
The quality control is a disturbing trend but like others mentioned above, the warranty is quite comprehensive and indubitably better than the service you'd get with HP/Dell/Sony. I would still be quite dismayed thought spending $2000 on a laptop and having to forgo without it for weeks at a time whenever a problem arises (on top of forking out extra shipping costs). -
Sorry I didn't update this post sooner....
I took my G1 into Asus (45 min drive for me so it was np) The problem "went away" while they had it and I picked it up the next day. They had told me that the typical turn around time would have been no more then 1-2 days if there was a problem and each time they would give me the option to either come by and pick it up (easy for me) or they would overnight it back to me. Anyway, there has been no further issues since then...
G1 screen problem...:(
