    Question re: surround sound.

I know there aren't many analog sound options that are compatible with Vista. My question is are the 1/8" jacks configurable at all? i.e. do the mic, line in and line out jacks re-configure to front L/R, rear L/R and center/sub? I've seen something like this before. If not, are there any other solutions? I'm interested in an analog surround setup for both games and movies, and since the Creative option is out for now (is it?), I'm at a loss for what to do. Thanks.

a digital receiver via tos link into the spdif is probably the best quality you will get out of it. otherwise i dont see how you can get true surround out of any notebook that does not have dedicated 5 channel sound. also creative should have pci-express audigy out by now. look into it

The PCI Express version of the X-fi is out. Only you have to buy the 5.1 connector b/c Creative is being obnoxious and making it sold separately.
