Well
my thread has been viewed 55 times and nobody has bothered to answer my simple questions.
mabe buying a G1S was a bad idea.
John. -
A "bump" would have sufficed.
You can ask on the owner's lounge. I have no ideas about these questions, I don't own a G1S. -
Sound is pure crap....
that's for sure....
I'm almost ashamed of it....
for the first question, i dont know...i dont have it right now -

I thought the G1S was a gaming laptop, so how can the sound be so bad?
regards
John.
-
Take a random notebook. Check the sound. It's horrible.
There are very few exceptions. Notebooks sound good only through headphones or external speakers. -
The sound is fine... as long as you use headphones/external speakers.
EDIT - EBE - the ASUS G1S speakers are "really" bad... even by laptop standards imo
As for the model of the drive... I'll update in a few minutes when I get home. -

Hi.
can you return a laptop within 7 days of recept like other intenet orders, if your not happy with it?
I dont like headphones, and external speakes just clutter things up.
thanks
John. -
As for the drive...
In mine it's a
HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T20L ATA Device
Which, according to Nero Info Tool, will read and write to DVD-RAM -

Hi.
thanks for the links, some good reading
out of the 4 reviews here are the comments on the speaker quality.
1 : ABOVE AVERAGE
2 : ECHO
3 : NOT EVEN AVERAGE
4 : ADEQUATE
so what do i make of that.
regards
John.

ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
OK, I'll try to make it simple... If you want and/or expect good -> high quality out of notebook speakers without a built-in subwoofer, you'll never get it and will always be disappointed.
Small speakers just aren't capable of reproducing quality across the frequency spectrum, esp in the mid-low range. Whether you can live with the capabilities of the average, small notebook speaker (of which the G1 and all of Asus' products, exc the VX series, fully fit into) by themselves is a decision only you can make - the opinions of others, in reviews and elsewhere are colored by their expectations and willingness to compromise on the sound, but few I think base their purchase decision on the built-in speakers since the notebooks will function admirably given the correct external hardware to connect to.
I know you said you don't like headphones/speakers, but that may be a compromise you have to make based on what it sounds like your expectations are. -
G1S speakers are horrid and should never be used unless you want people to laugh at you. Dish out 50 bucks and get a 2.1 system... it wont take up THAT much space.
Virtually no notebook's speakers give good quiality. Unless your using a mac... -

Hi.
my nephew has an old toshiba 17" P4 and the sound is fantastic really bassy, and very loud, he said it has SRS or somthing.
I have had a look at the current toshiba line-up and i dont fancy the HD2600 GPU and the HD-DVD driver that they all have.
So i will just wait and see what the G1S is like.
thanks for all the help.
John. -
It was an 17" notebook and there was room for better speakers inside.

So does the G2S have better sound then the G1S?
mabe i should have ordered that one then.
regards
John.
-
Both the G1s and G2s have weak speakers, which are below avarage even for a notebook. Not to call them garbage, but they are really not far from that anyway.

Hi.
I am going to cancel the G1S, and am now looking at the G2S.
I have read that they are twice as loud and the speakers are placed under the keyboard?
Is this correct.
thanks
John. -
Well, I wouldn't use the speakers as a decision making factor... anyway.
The G2s speakers are up to no good to me but ...
Read the reviews again and let us know about the result:

Btw, some Toshiba 17" notebooks have Harmon Kardon speakers, so that's a completely different story... -
If you don't want to have trouble with ASUS support , don't go for the G2S , too many problems with this laptop
, the G1S is better for reliabity.
Or just wait for the news alienware laptop , who seems good and not too overpriced.
Personnaly , i've got the G1S and i'm very satisfied with it, no problems, and he can run all the actual games , really good for a notebook. -
Dont let the speaker quality be the ultimate factor in your decision.

Bump.Bump.
-
Well that should provide you with enough info for a decision. Asus GX speakers are bad, you should either settle for an external solution, or for another type of notebook...

Oh well...
Why don't you just fill out the FAQ in the "what to buy" section, and see if people could help you to buy a good notebook... -
Acer over Asus... LOL
Hope it works out for you. -
-
never let a brand Fool u, Get it and hav a touch with it if it got a good review. I reccomend sagers. Why not get a ideapad LOl
-
Many ASUS notebooks used to use Matsh!ta... don't know if they still do.
On the contrary, I touch Acers all the time in stores... only to find my finger sinks in half a centimeter wherever I press.
