Have just recieved the Asus G1S with the standard 2 GB RAM. By a mistake i also got one 2 GB modul extra.

Have replaced one of the original one 1gb with this 2 gb modul so i have now 3 GB on my G1S.

This stuff about dual. Is it a problem that I replaced the 1 GB modul with the 2 GB modul in the overall notebook proformance?

And why isn't there one 2 GB Ram modul from the beginning.

I am a totally rookie a this - the questions are very rookie i know  :).

Congrats and Good luck , I have paid ~100$ for the 2 GB module + ~35$ for the Turbo memory (I recommend this).
3 GB of ram will give you better performance in some games because of the only 256mb of detected video ram you'll increase the shared memory and i have told that SP1 use more ram (If there's free) for smoother operation.

Perf should increase, however XP and Vista have been reported sometimes to have issues with 3GB of RAM. Keep an eye out for problems / a slow running computer, but you should be ok.

And before labeling the computer as slow, please, remove the bloatware. :)

    1. No, generally. Dual channel in notebooks is a farce - less than 2-3% increase in performance, if that, compared to single channel. However, the increase in total RAM will provide a definite performance boost over the stock 2GB level.

    2. 1GB sticks are cheaper and easier to get at the volumes Asus works with, so Asus drops them in rather than install 2GB modules.
