    Hello G1S owners,

I've almost convinced myself to ge the G1S but before I take the plunge there's a few questions I would like to ask you.

    Durability :
I'll be backpacking for a while with the G1S, and (although it has it's own backpack) due to travel constraints it will most probably be riding in amongst clothes in my large backpack. This will but pressure on the lid for extended periods of time (My last laptop had keyboard key marks on it's screen due to this)

    1. How rigid is the lid ? Will sufficient pressure bring the lcd in contact with the keyboard ? Would you recommend backpacking the G1S like this ?

    Resolution :
I'm concerned about the WSXGA+ 1680x1050 resolution being too big for me but can always scale the text if need be. More importantly though I would like to avoid scaling up resolutioins to play demanding games at better settings.

    2. In general what resolution do you game at ?

Curretly living in France I have the following options, both with French Vista (I speak enough French so not a huge problem for me, but not exactly ideal either) :

1440x900 with Swiss keyboard (Qwerty with different symbol layout)
1280x860 with French keyboard (Azerty, ...wtf?)

    3. Ultimately this will be a personal decison I have to make, so I guess what I'm trying to ask in general terms is : "Would you make sacrifices for these resolutions, how large would the benefits be ?"

    Thanks guys :)

P.S. For all those concerned about your 15" gaming supremacy I say raspberries to that 17" in disguise Alienware Behemoth, Long Live the G1 !

Maybe a notebook backpack is a better idea rather than having it between clothes.

What I do is I have a notebook backpack and I always take care when storing the backpack that the notebook is on top and not at the bottom.

Text can be scaled up. Resolution changes in games are not that visible.

I recommend QWERTY if you're used to it, it can be a pain to get used to an AZERTY keyboard.

The screen has a bit of flex to it so i dont recommend it being under pressure. If you are going to travel with it I highly recommend having it in its own bag. The screen can be scaled up if you must. But geneally, I game in 1200x800 or 1440x900.

Every Friday and Monday, I pack clothes into my G1s backpack to bring my clothes back to my University residence. So far I haven't seen any physical damage or keyboard marks on the screen. (touch wood) I don't think the flexing of the lcd cover flexes the screen too, it should only be because theres a gap between the cover and the screen. So I won't worry about the flex, but I might be wrong, as this is my first notebook. =]

I got a Slappa backpack for my G1s and it protects it so well. Also, I use a one of those microfiber Car washing cloths to protect my screen when I close it. So far, so good. Although, sometimes the "carbon fiber" front of the laptop can creak a bit.... Heh, not real carbon fiber lol.

Thanks for the help guys :)

I managed to get down to a store to get a look at a G1S, the screen is absolutely stunning. I got a chance to muck around with it out of native resolution and it still looked quite good.

However I couldn't be too rough with it, the security guard already started eyeing me off when I picked it up to get a closer look.

I got a general feel for the quality, there is quite a gap between the keys and the screen, but if anyone could give me a more long term indication of how there G1S is holding up it would be greatly appreciated :)

Unfortunately carrying it in it's own bag will not be an option.

The durability concern is the only thing keeping me from getting it ... :(
