well i just got my 500gb hitachi hd in - and i just got my hands on a fresh copy of windows 7 ultimate 64-bit - im planning on installing the drive this weekend - and topping it off with a fresh install of windows 7

is there anything i should know going into this? ive read that win7 is very good at picking out all of the needed drivers on its own - should i just let it do its thing?

the only upgrade ive given the g1s is a slight boost in ram to 4gb - so everything else is just the standard goods

any comments? tips? advice? im open to everything

Both Vista x64 and Win7 x64 drivers on Asus' support site should work fine. I would download those and burn them to disk before beginning the reinstall. Then install them after install is complete.

Also install the new Geforce drivers 195.62 as I believe there are a number of enhancements, including some specifically for Win7.

I upgraded my G1S to Win7x64 a couple of weeks before it died. One hitch was that there are no Win7 drivers on the Asus site for the G1S. However, someone on the Asus forum pointed out that the G51VX Win7x64 drivers are compatible with the G1S, and I had no problems with them. Just make sure you install the INF driver, the ATK0100 driver, and Wireless Console before you install any of the Asus utilities, and you should be fine.
