    hello everyone,

i recently went through the process to achieve a perfectly clean vista install on my g1s-x1 (which happened to be the best possible thing i could have done to the computer)

at any rate, i was able to pick and choose which drivers and software i installed (again, this was fantastic), HOWEVER, im not sure which software controls the oled screen - what the heck is the name of that program?

i remember you could switch it so that it displays the time or some sort of clever phrase with a few icons (right now it just shows a static "ASUS" mark)...

i looked through the available software on asus' site but couldnt seem to figure out which particular download i needed...

    anyone have any ideas?

    tia

That would be Asus Direct Console.

^ do you know if thats a resource hog at all? i'd rather have the notebook running at its best than to be able to change the pretty lights on the top - lol

Don't have a clue really. I only run Direct Console when I have to turn off the display (as I prefer it) - which unfortunately has been required a number of times as the "Asus" light seems to be turned back on if I've had to manually cut off power to the laptop (which has happened several times as I've occasionally had problems getting it to enter sleep mode, though I think I've got that narrowed down to the external harddrive not always shutting down quickly enough).

i have another question i figured i might as well ask here instead of starting a new thread - anyone have any idea what utility is used for that spiffy bt/wifi on/off animation?

right now - i just get the standard notification screen in the upper left hand corner of the screen that says:
    - "wireless lan on"
    - "bt on"
    - "wireless lan and bt on"
    - "wireless lan and bt off"

but when i first got the computer, there would be this "nice-looking" animation at the center of the screen...

vain, i know - but i think it looks cool
