So i cant decide whetehr to go through the pain to install XP instead of Vista on my G1S-B2... is it really worth it? Im wondering mainly in terms of gaming.
Will i lose DX10 if i install XP?

    Yes you will loose DX10.

Personally, I don't think it's worth it, especially if you got a Vista clean install that is working wonderfully.

Although I have only just seen this http://asusg1s.blogspot.com/2008/01/installing-windows-xp-sp2-on-asus-g1s.html
, the fact this guy gets a boost in 3dmark06 of some 700 points upon installing XP with STOCK settings (no overclock!) over Vista is a big enough reason for me to want to!

Yea, 700 points that's worth it for me...
Plus just the daily use like opening your mail, surfing, chatting, doing your work will all go faster/smoother on XP ;)

I think i will get (a legal :p ) Windows XP this week and that's I'm going to install it on my D partition of my HDD (Now i'm using the D partition for my games but I'm gone install XP and see how it goes, if it get some problems i still got my Vista on the :C partition ;)

if it ain't broke, don't fix it............

if you're happy w/ vista, stay w/ vista............

everything is now geared in that direction..........

Hmm, I only see a 25 pts difference on my c90s. I think it's more of the fact that he was running 101.xx on Vista and 169.28 on XP. Or even a resolution fact. I've never heard of a stock 8600M GT scoring 4600pts at 1280x1024

EDIT: Yup, a XPS 1530 scores 4290 at 1280x800 under XP

Oh and, in the benhcmark world, no pics=fake

    I agree with this advice...

+ you wouldn't be spending money on the XP (except if you can get it really cheap).

anyone can get a CHEAP legal version of XP HERE

But remember, this is genuine Dell re-installation disk, so only order it if you lost your dell disk ;)

and a dual boot as descibed above is a sweet solution.............

I agree with this too. There's not much point forking out more money for XP, unless that mere boost of performance in games (aproximately 5% difference in FPS) is that important to you.

However if you've got an extra copy of XP lying around, then by all means go do a dual boot. :)

Hmmm thanx for the input people. I think i might stick with Vista for now. I dont seem to have any issues with any of the games i run (Crysis@1280x768 all at medium) and nothing is really bothering me so far. I did do a clean Vista re-install though.
    Thanx again.

Must be some kind of problem with your particular system, I haven't seen such things reported yet.

And anyway, IE is stone age technology :) Use a real browser, like Firefox.

You can't "uninstall" an operating system. You will simply need to format the partition, but there might be quirks getting the XP to boot afterwards. A fixmbr and fixboot might from a Repair startup of the installation CD might work, but I won't bet on it.

if you do set up a dual boot and install XP, you will corrupt the vista boot...

you'll need to run "vista install" and do a "repair" instead of the install.....

it will repair the vista boot and you'll be all set >> and a real easy way to manage the dual boot is to install "EasyBCD"(freeware) as your boot manager- it makes it simple. There are several good boot managers so just do a Google search for them". I also use "iReboot" which allows youto select which OS you want to boot into when you restart your system.

I think I'm going for dualboot, you never know that XP runs bad or something... And than i still got Vista... ;)

I got a :C and D partition, vista is installed on C and my games are on the D partition.

So I will install XP on my D partition and delete all my games because I want to play them on XP and they are installed on vista.. (Is there A way to use data (in this case games) on XP AND Vista (same installation)??)

if you're asking if you can be running xp and play the games installed on vista >> that won't work. The paths will be all screwed up. On 3 our desktop that we have dual boots on, we do share drives for storage of files/data and can access them from either os.

    Yea, thanks
It's actually logical about the games, but I wanted to be 100% sure ^^

My biggest problem is Steam, I got A LOT of games on Steam and It's installed on my vista and i need to install it on XP (That means downloading EVERYTHING again (steam game updates... :s)

For those interested i did the 3DMarks06 test on our main desktop and gamer, a dell xps 700, pent d 3.6x2, 4gb, geforce 7900 gs. We Dual Boot on this and have almost the exact same programs on both OS's-- both 64bit. So curious about the 3DMarks06 scores folks have been talking about I ran the test on both sides of the dual boot and XP only scored about 100 points more than Vista. Then I ran "NTune" by nvidia, a simple program to safely overclock your processors and graphics card and the scores jumped up quite impressively- see scores below!! So if you're running Vista and want to safely improve perfomance and have a nvidia graphics card, just install and run the 20minute NTune test and you should be pleasantly surprised. But after the tuneup, XP's score improved greatly.

    1st Vista Ultimate 64Bit Test
    4075-- 3DMarks06

    1st XP Pro 64Bit Test
    4177-- 3DMarks06

2nd Vista Ultimate 64Bit--> After Optimazation by NTune(20 min tune)
    4657-- 3DMarks06

2nd XP Pro 64 Bit Test--> After Optimaztion by NTune(20 min tune)
    4945-- 3DMarks06

Vista 64 if you want to make use of all the RAM.

If you think a 32-bit system is better for you, I recommend XP over Vista.
