Hi,
I experience a sound issue with my G1S.
When I switch it on or when I resume from hibernation, the sound is not working. I must disable it (mute) and reenable it to fix the problem.
How can I fix that ?
Installing Vista SP1 or new audio drivers (1.83) didn't help.
I'm at a loss what to do.
Thank you for your help.

hmm that a weird one. can you reinstall atk driver? is the sound actually muted out of hibernate? Or is it on but just not making noise? what sound is not working specifuically? one application like a game or all sound?
-
Thanks for replying.
What's atk driver ?
The sound is not muted and all sound is not working at all. That is very strange indeed.
For instance when I turn the comp on, I can hear the sound when "Asus gaming series" logo displays and then I can't hear Vista sound ! -
I can also only think of a glitch in the audio drivers / ATK/ACPI drivers / a combination of the two.
The ATK driver control power-management on the notebook. You can find the latest version on support.asus.com -
My acer had issues like that i install newest realtek hd audio drivers from site and it went away
I asume you sound tottaly died look play but nothing come out speakers?

try the 1.8.3 -
Actually I already installed the 1.8.3 drivers.
As for the ATK drivers, it seems there are two different versions on support.asus.com (I can't tell precisely because the website is unreachable right now). Do you know which one I should get ?
Cheers -
The one with the latest version number?
There are several ATK related utilities if that's what you mean -- in Vista it's really obscure, there are several and it's not always clear what each of them does.
I'd just get the latest ATK drivers and all the related utilities from the website, uninstall all of them from the computer, and install the downloaded versions. -
Well I uninstalled everything related to ATK and I reinstalled ATKOSD2 and ATK0100 ACPI utility.
Unfortunately, it seems that I got it wrong : I can't use the Fn key anymore because I removed ATK Hotkey utility. Can't find it online, but I'll wait until I get my hands on the drivers cd next week. -
Check the drivers section as well, I think there is also an ATK/ACPI driver that you need also.
It is this that you need:
ATK_Hotkey UTILITY
ATK_Hotkey UTILITY for Vista -
Thx, the hotkey issue is fixed.
However, the sound is still not working properly. I guess I'll have to get used to it because I really don't understand what might cause the trouble.. -
Well now it gets worse : sometimes a song finishes playing, then I play another song 2 minutes after and the sound is not working (I must mute and unmute in order to make it work).
The sound now stops working randomly ... this is becoming annoying :/ -

as most tech support would say "reinstall the windows" using the included restore dvd
-
Well, I used the recovery partition, installed latest drivers (1.83) and I still face the same problem.
I'm now at a loss what to do -
I found out another strange thing.
I turned my comp on and the sound was working fine this time. I can play songs with MediaPlayer without any problem.
Then I launch a movie with VLC Media Player and there's no sound. So I check MediaPlayer and it works.
Finally I had to click mute in VLC and unmute so that the sound of the movie would work...
Weird, isn't it ? -
I went for the audio drivers on Asus's website. I was worse than before, I could not hear a sound at all (except the boot sound of course). The only thing I noticed was a deaf sound when I cycled through mute and unmute mode.
EDIT : I've noticed that I can hear some sound if I plug some earphones ! I experience the same as this guy : http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx?id=20071216141439562&board_id=3&model=G2S&page=1&SLanguage=en-us
The only difference is that I can clearly hear the bootup sound.
I don't feel like sending my comp back another time
G1S : no sound
