If you want to buy a battery, I recommend either the ASUS eStore or the resellers listed in the Info Booth. I am not sure that battery will work for the G1S.

Before that though, you could try a battery calibration from the BIOS. And perhaps cleaning the battery terminals. Although it is quite possible that the battery is dead...

What happens if you unplug the notebook? Does it die immediately or does it run for a while off the battery?

As to the overall quality of the G1S, yeah, it's one of the problematic ASUS notebooks. Mostly heat-related though.

I cleaned, made sure the bios was up to date, tried the calibration, and it shuts down instantly if the ac is removed. Since the AC adapter doesn't fit well into the port anymore and can come disconnected just by jostling the cord, it randomly shuts down all the time. Quite annoying.

Well since it's only a year old it's still under warranty. I would try to get it fixed from warranty for the AC port problem.

As to the battery, probably warranty is expired and you'd need to buy a new one in that case. Most importantly though I think you should fix the AC port problem...
