I just started working at Best Buy in Canada and was wondering if there were any other best buyers here? I know they've been trashed alot on the web but hey, I'm new. Anyways if there is any best buyers do you know if its possible to get Asus from Best Buy? And does anyone think they'd carry the G1S? I'm guessing it just might be on special order but I'm not holding any hopes whatsoever. I just want it... bad.

I own the original G1 notebook which I bought off bestbuy online. Got it fairly cheap, but be warned mine only came with 1 year warranty as opposed to 2 and didn't include bag or mouse (none of which particularly bothered me)

So if they do get them remember to check on warranty and accessories.

Nope, none in Best Buy and Future Shops up here.

Though The Source by Circuit City has lower end ASUS models.

I asked the only Best Buy For Business store near me if they will carry any other Asus Notebooks, and they did not know... Even the Geek Squad Guys did not know (What is the world coming to!?! jk) :p

They had not heard if they are on order, or if Best Buy will continue carrying the models in store... my guess is IF they get it, it wont be soon... which sucks

well... hopefully they can special order it for me. Whats up with the no bag and mouse deal though. thats such a nice feature to the G1. I'd be dissappointed in not finding a bag or mouse. Anyways hopefully sometime down the line. I don't think I get discounts for 90 days anyways so... we'll see.

I'm sure the bad reports about BestBuy are true but the thing is that not all BestBuys are the same. Last Xmas my wife and I bought an HDTV. We had a bad experience with CircuitCity and a great experience with BestBuy. Basically, CC was selling it for cheaper than BB so we went with them at first. They stupid sales clerk tried to pressure us into an extended warranty and basically lied to us by saying that consumer reports recommended an extended warranty on HDTV of the kind we were buying. (We're subscribed to CR so I checked after we came back home and found nothing. The guy just lied.) They gave us a delivery estimate of one week but when the date came the TV was still not there. We learned by talking to another clerk that CC was not even able to get the TVs from the manufacturer. So we canceled.

I was not happy because I was pretty much set on that TV and CC was selling it at the best price I could find. (Yes, there were cheaper places online but after shipping costs, the online prices were not so good. I'm also not terribly inclined to buy from relatively unknown places out in some backwater location. No thanks.) We saw BB was selling it and had it in stock but it was about $200 more expensive. I told my wife we should go and try to see if we could get BB to price-match. We went there, I told them the price at CC and I was expecting the guy to say they could not price-match because the price I was quoting was from a web site or because the item was out-of-stock. There is in fact typically a clause (and BB does have it) that says stores won't price-match on items out-of-stock at the other store. Well, the clerk at BB went online, checked the price (I'm sure he saw it was out-of-stock) AND CORRECTED DOWN THE PRICE I GAVE HIM!!! I'm not kidding! I made a mistake when I told him the price. I had quoted a price about $50 higher than the actual price and he corrected me to my advantage. So not only the clerk accepted a price-match he could have rejected but he did not take advantage of my mistake. Oh, and he proposed an extended warranty and I said no and that was the end of the discussion. No pressure. No bull****.

The lesson here is that the service you get at a specific BestBuy depends on that specific BestBuy more than on the chain as a whole.

thats very true about variations between stores. So far it seems like more store is going to be a good one. Hopefully it meets up to my standards. I like that I wont be on commision which does remove alot of the pressure to sell. The main thing that we do try to sell however is the insurance but its not worth it to push on someone. if they dont want it then they dont want it.

I was in Inside and outside sales for 12 volt products and service and installation for many years. I was an enthusiast that made a job of it. My advice to anyone selling Consumer Electronics is KNOW YOUR PRODUCT. You would think its a no brainer, but watch how many salespersons act when you ask a challenging question. At the Frys Electronics near me, if its not on the Tag, then the guy (or Gal) doesnt know. Customer want to know they are buying from a knowlegeable salesperson, and you knowledge is the difference.

Funny thing about the commison based sales is that it makes some get lazy and not help a customer into what they want, and it makes others way to pushy. I am sure that even Best Buy will have you push the Warranty/Service plan on people. It has the most profit in it!

I went to a Best Buy to see the G1 and they guys there were semi knowledgeable, they could tell I had done my homework, so they gave me space, but still informed me regarding satisfaction guarantee and warranty plans. ( Some people can really benefit from a Service Plan, most wont) They never crossed the line, which makes them good in my mind. Great would have been to tell me something I did not know regarding the product, but I cant fault them, they only carry one real gaming laptop

Use the internet on your time (theirs if possible :p ) to gain the advantage over your co-workers... Before you know it, you will be the Guru that others talk about and refer to when in need.
