I just got my G1S 2 days ago and today I noticed a dead pixel to the top right of my screen. I have read that ASUS has a 30 day dead pixel policy and was wondering if they replace the screen or the entire laptop. Also how long would this entire thing take because I don't want to be without my new toy for too long.
-
Most likely they're just replace the screen, as they know most users won't want to lose their data. It wouldn't hurt to contact them and ask, though.
It'll probably take a week or so to do the exchange, depending on where you live and shipping, etc. -

Depending on where you live and how close you are to the service center, some can get it done in 5-6 hours, while most people who have to ship have to wait up to 1-2 weeks at the most.
They will just replace the screen. Dissassemble the laptop and place the new screen. -
Better send to ASUS Centre...ASUS have 30 days warranty to Screen
The dead pixel u can see very clear or only little bit..?
^_^ -
If you're in the states their service is fast and pretty awesome, you wont have to spend a single penny.

Isn't Asus's dead pixel warranty for a Bright Dot and not a Dead pixel? Meaning if the pixel is black they dont' consider that a bright dot?
-
A single bright dot gets a replacement screen (only on some models), or more than three dead pixels [Edit: this part is a little inaccurate; see below] get a replacement screen (on all models), and some other mixtures of messed-up pixels get a replacement screen.
[Edit:
The full explanation from ASUS about pixel-condition policies for ASUS notebooks:
"Customers who purchase selected ASUS Branded Notebooks in North America with “ZERO BRIGHT DOT FREE” (ZBD) guarantee service coverage are eligible for ZBD free LCD panel exchange claim within first 30 days of purchase, the first 30 days’ period directly apply to the end-user. Any claimer needs to provide the invoice to prove it is within first 30 days.
End-User may contact our notebook technical support / RMA Service Rep for returning notebook for LCD panel exchange. This service will not imply a “DOA”, which means no REPLACEMENT/CREDIT can be claimed.
This guarantee service program only covers the FIRST 30 DAYS OF END USER PURCHASING. Any claim case past our guarantee period will be treated as a regular RMA, and will not be accepted under the ZBD LCD panel exchange policy. ASUS service will only focus on functional repair (there is no ZBD offered even if LCD is replaced ).
There will be a $50 service charge fee to the user who insists on having the LCD panel exchanged with ZBD over the first 30 days guarantee period.
Regular LCD Panel Warranty:
For claims after the first 30 days that meet any of the following criteria, then we will allow for an LCD panel exchange but not ZBD guarantee:
a) over 3 bright dots or 6 black dots or 8 mixed bright and black dots in total
b) 2 adjacent bright dots or 2 adjacent black dots
c) 3 bright and/or black dots within an area of radius 7.5mm
All models not covered by “ZBD” guarantee service program are automatically qualified to use this “Regular LCD Panel Warranty” and start from the first day of the notebook purchase.
Note: This regular LCD Panel Warranty’s LCD panel replacement is not ZBD guarantee, and is available to follow the industry standard.
[rahasyavadi's note: ASUS's final note here, immediately following, applies only to the notebooks that have the special ZBD warranty, which the note indicates applies if and only if the serial # of the computer begins with a 5--I got all this text from an ASUS notice about the ZBD warranty.]
NOTE: This policy will be effective from January 2005 with factory serial number starting with “5” on selected ASUS branded models."] -
you could probably return it under a "standard return policy" and reorder another... if they won't fix it.

that is covered under warranty of zbd
you cant just return a notebook to a dealer and reorder the same one. i have yet to find a dealer that allows returns of ensemble notebooks without restocking -
One dead pixel does not get a new screen even under Zero Bright Dot Warranty, so edddy, you are correct to understand that your screen does not qualify for free replacement.
-
Yeah, I believe the one pixel applies to bright dot, and three dead pixels (or a combination). Still, that's less pixels required than a lot of companies require, which I think is good. I do have one dead pixel on the lower portion of my screen, but it's not bothersome to me, and it could be a lot worse.
-
I have a dead pixel on my lcd monitor and my model is if it doesn't botther leave it a long
-
Why 1 notebook have dead pixel, this factory problem or user problem, because im also have one friend have dead pixel in her notebook, Her say this problem because the notebook its too old,
-
I'm sorry, but dead pixels are UNACCEPTABLE on new notebooks!
-
Zero Dead Pixel Policy on all Asus notebooks. Take advantage of it - it's their guarantee to you.
-
Asus will replace the LCD screen for you.
-
ASUS will not replace the screen for you. You have a dead, dark pixel - ASUS warrants only bright dots which are far more annoying. A dead, dark pixel is still noticeable especially when viewing a document as it would appear as a speck of dirt.
Here's the FAQ from ASUS which specifically states that the Zero Bright Dot (ZBD) policy only takes effect when you spot a single bright dot on select models: http://event.asus.com/zbd/global/c1.htm -
Call them and ask. You might get lucky.

I happened to have a bright dot on my screen. It is very hard to see when not playing games (moving images seems to make it most noticeable). Also varying colors tend to show it better. I actually drew a circle with an arrow on the desktop image using paint so that it could be seen (I couldn't seem to find a good desktop to show it off).
They give free FEDEX OVERNIGHT shipping both ways. So this should reduce the time it takes to get it back. Call their customer service department and talk to them about it. They should be able to help you and give you advice. -
So will asus Exchange it or not ??
that makes sense since they Claim "its Asus warranty and reliable policy to make their custumers confident about ASUS not just some models..", and they do not mention the Name of these models that actually have the real 1 bad pixel warranty
thats my view under the Custumers's rights -
The models whose serial #s start with 5 are the ones that have the Zero Bright Dot warranty, and that is only for a dot that shows up on a normally completely black screen.
