Before anyone asks i have googled to try and find the right solution and i have used the forum's search feature but none seemed to accomodate my problem adequately
Well ive had my ASUS G1S for about a month now and its been great so far.
(specs: t7500 2.2ghz, 2gb ram, 8600m gt ddr3, 160gb hitachi HDD.)
I updated to 169 Nvidia drivers quite a while ago and my computer has had its hicups and blamed reboots & freezing on nvidia.
But just recently my computer froze after a few long hours of use and when i rebooted it normally, i would log in, it would load explorer.exe and some items in the system tray bar. would eventually freeze before it would even load the vista sidebar or on some occasions, half way through.
I have reason to believe it might be nvidia causing this problem, but i am unsure.
I once got a message error saying: "c:\windows\system32\NvCpl.dll is not a valid Win32 application".
Is this problem caused by something else or nvidia?
I am currently posting on this forum on my laptop on 'safe mode with networking'. I tried a system restore from dec 9th 07 and that didnt help, nor did rolling back my GPU drivers.
---
When i booted my computer via the recovery CD it gave me three options. to recover to first hd partition only, to entire HD, and to entire HD + 2nd partition.
If i choose first HD partition only, does this mean it will restore vista onto the 1st partition only (how my system is currently configured) or does that mean it will recover entirely to one partition? im scared of losing my files i have on the second partition.
many thanks in advance.

chkdsk reported no errors and i am fairly sure i dont have any viruses or spyware. i like to run a tight ship and try to keep my computer uncluttered with any crap and keep it neat and in order.

Try checking the event viewer to see if any pertinent errors or warnings showed up recently.

nvcpl.dll is a NVIDIA DLL file.
nvcpl.dll - display properties extension
Try installing the driver again or try some other driver version. -
I second rulebreaker's suggestion. Make sure you use DriverCleanerPro in safe mode, to cleanup your system from the remnants of the old drivers.
And I can confirm that "Recover Windows to 1st partition only" will not touch the rest of the partitions. If it's important data, do a backup nevertheless, it's good practice.
Be sure you do not select "Recover Windows to Entire HDD in 1 partition" though! That will kill your data. -
Hmm, I'd rather not fiddle with DriverCleanerPro. I just downloaded it, however the steps i have to take in order to do a good clean is more than im willing to risk. I dont want to tamper with something I have no knowledge about and if I some how made it worse (which is my kinda luck) I wouldnt know what to do moreso than i do now.

Driver Cleaner Pro is safe to use. You just have to select your GPU type (ATI vs. Nvidia) from the filters, and as long as you have uninstalled the driver prior to running DriverCleaner, all will be fine. There is little risk.
It only cleans up the garbage left by the drivers (as we all know, Windows is just a large garbage bin --- why they even put it on the desktop by default)

Well I dont think it was NvCpl.dll that was causing the problem. I eventually did use DriverCleanerPro and it fixed nothing. I ended up copying my important files to the second partition and had to format the 1st partition.
Finally got my laptop back in order.. after the system recovery failed 2 times.
3rd time lucky..unfortunately. Now i missed an important deadline for university and im stuffed. goddamn i hate microsoft..shoulda got a MBP or installed Linux.. -
G1S Freeze Upon startup / NvCpl.dll?
