I just got a call from the place I ordered my G1S, they told me that they failed to upgrade the hard disk. The recovery didn't work. Does this mean they couldn't copy the image of the older HD to the newer one?

I don't know the exact process on how they do it. But I'm not sure if I want the laptop anymore. They tested two hard drives already. I'm sure what to do now. It feels as if the laptop is not brand new anymore.

Eh? It's still brand new. It's not like they're using old hard drives or anything (I assume anyway).

Well, I want the 7200rpm over the 5400rpm. To my understanding, the difference between the two is the loading time/seek time and not the performance. I do have a eSATA external HD though.

I just figured that if they can't get vista on the 7200rpm disk, I might as well stick with a 5400rpm. I haven't payed for the machine. I can't ask for a new machine since this one was the last in stock.

Would you go to another store and buy the same machine with a 5400rpm?

Am I obligated to buy the G1S that I initially ordered from?

You are never obligated to buy anything that doesn't meet reasonable expectations. Having a working hard drive is certainly a reasonable expectation. Also is the fact that, though HDD upgrades don't void the warranty, if they screw it up then it does, and since it seems that they did, then I would be careful.
