    Hi guys,

The metal cap with the green/black circle thingy that is on the end of the right hinge on my G1S came off in the carry bag while I was taking it to college.

    Firstly ***!?

    Secondly, what should I do?

Just glue it back on? RMA seems overkill right? Is it even covered under warranty?

    I hate my G1S.

if it's a snap-on type of piece, just call the nearest ASUS service center and ask them to send you the part. You could also submit a request to technical support on the ASUS website. The plastic hinge cover on my M51sn fell off and they said they would mail me one. I'm still waiting on it though...17 days later...

If it won't go back on, Moocowz is right. It's worth a shot to ask ASUS because the factories will sometimes supply small parts as a courtesy if they have spares. You are right though that it's not really under warranty as they'll term that physical damage/wear and tear. If they give you the replacement, it's just to be nice. Good luck.

Well I had a close look and I can't just push it back on because it doesn't stick. Upon inspection there seemed to be some yellowish glue residue on the cap. It really just seems to be a cap so I applied a tiny bit of glue and stuck it back on.

Unfortunately even if I could get a new one (not available on Asus eStore) it is not a snap on type component so I would have to glue it on anyway...

Unless there is a way to replace the entire hinge but I don't think it's worth it for a component that seems to be there just for aesthetics.

I have this problem with my G2S. The reason the hinge caps don't go back on with mine is because the actual back part of the chassis that the cap is supposed to go on is deformed. It is raised off of the bottom half of the chassis, and there doesn't seem to be a way to push it back down. I can tell because when I lay the cap onto the hinge and open the computer lid, I get a snapping sound, meaning the cap is being pushed up against the screen bezel.

This first happened to one side, then a year later, the other. I'm annoyed by it, but it isn't a fatal problem, so I'm willing to just deal and tell my friends the silver hinge is part of the design. xD

But in my case I told my friends I bought an Asus because of the build quality. Ironic. :(

Actually, both instances were on a return trip from Thailand, and you know how airlines are. xD Had to stuff the thing, had no room to maneuver. I can't blame ASUS for that. I actually think the material they used on my computer was very good; it's just the design of the computer. When you're carrying this thing in a backpack, the hinges are extra exposed when you put it down, no matter how gently you try.

Fair point, the hinge cap that fell off is the one that is always at the bottom of the bag. I guess it could have been due to me putting it down, never thought of that.

No worries, knock the other cap off and the imperfection becomes symmetrical! Lol okay; not a serious suggestion, but the fact that the hinge caps are off doesn't eat away at me as much now that the other cap fell off too. xD

uh...that's the one cheap part of the G1s heh...I don't know why Asus built them that way, but what I did when it fell off (and it will since its just cheap plastic...) is just glue them back.

Mine fell off too.. but I just used super glue and put a dab of it onto the center part of the cap and placed it back on to its position nice and easily. Then let it sit there for 5 mins or so while holding it in.

It should hold nice and tightly afterwards. That's what happen to mine and there was no mess involved such as the super glue spilling out.
