Just a heads up, I have the G1S-A1 laptop with XP home SP2 installed rather than vista. it has been working for about 6 months now, until i decided to upgrade from 2gb of memory, to 3. Unlike other memory problems I have read about with the G1S, which involve the 2gb stick not working, my problem is that only the 2gb stick works. I have searched around and it may be that xp doesnt register more than 2gb, but i havent actually seen a solution to this, or whether there is a solution. I have a 2gb stick and a 1gb stick in, i have tried switching the slots and between the 2 1gbs but to no avail. does anyone have any suggestions regarding this situation?

Sorry. Everything works just fine, except that xp doesnt recognize the 1 gig that is with the 2 gig i just bought. the 2 gig is comstar pc5300/4200 ddr2 667/533. I do blue screen occasionally but i believe thats just small incompatibilities with the hardware and the xp drivers, and it usually happans right after i logon with almost no consistency.

I just flashed my bios to the most recent version of th G1S which is 205, and the problem yet persists

See if you see all the ram in bios, I think somebody else was talking about this the other day and its all there just alot of its being used for turbocache so windows doesnt show it being availible since the gpu is holding it.

2048 mb recognized by the bios. theres no options for turbocache so im not sure what exactly to do about that

Wow if its like that in bios thats super strange, that means its a bios issue or flat out a hardware issue. Have you tried the 1gb stick all alone to see if it has any problems?
-
Yes, the single 1 gig stick works alone
-
But apparently the 2 gig stick is only being read as 1 gig when it is in alone
-
any ideas on what the problem could be? id think that if the memory were faulty, it wouldnt work at all

I've seen double-sided 512MB RAM only read as 256MB, the other side 256MB is bad.
That was long time ago and haven't seen it recently. -
Just let me get this straight.
When the single 2GB chip is in the computer, does the BIOS say 2GB, or 1GB?
When both chips are in the computer, does the BIOS say 3GB, or 2GB?
And what does Windows say in each case?
If it's only Windows there are some hotfixes that might fix the issue. -

if the 2gb is read as 1gb in either slot by it self then you can replace that module for another.
