What is the first partition on my ASUS G1S? It takes up 7GB and is 100% free. Below is a link to a screenshot of my Disk Management window. The G: volume is just my external HD.

out of 200gb only 190gb or so are actually available (manufacturers lie about the actual size). then you have a hidden recvovery partition. the way it is now is exactly as it should be,

Manufacturers don't lie about HD size. There are two different definitions for hard drive capacity. OS calculate it using 'Binary Power' and manufacturers calculate it using 'Decimal Power'.
Why is the recovery partition empty and should I get rid of it? I already have a backup plan and I need the extra space. -
Thats your hidden partition; if you mess up your computer, you can use that to fix it. Its not actually empty (i dont believe) it just looks that way. Personally i delleted it for 2 reasons; 1 like space, 2 i have the cds, and 3 i have a clone of the hd so i dont need a recovery partition. But thats just me.

Yes the partition is not empty, it contains the recovery data. I'd keep it if I were you, if you ever need to recover you'll be done in 20mins from the partition; it would take 4-5 hours with the optical disks.
As to whether manuf-s lie about capacity, that's open to debate. It is certainly misleading for many (most?) HDD buyers, even though technically correct.
