    Hi

I am looking for some help with sound drivers on the G1S - having isolated sound as the culprit of the skipping / stuttering performance I am getting in some games (WoW, LOTRO - both run smoothly with sound disabled...)

The issues I am having are probably down to Vista's new sound protocol implementation (no Directsound.)

What drivers are people here using for the G1S Realtek HD Audio device?

I have tried the Asus one, the Realtek 1.71 and 1.73, and I have even tried reverting to the MS "standard" Vista driver, which seems a little smoother, but this means the microphone doesnt work properly in Skype / Messenger etc.

    Any advice appreciated

I came by this article this morning.

    http://blogs.zdnet.com/hardware/?p=709

According to the article, vista has issues with network traffic degrading when playing MP3s or any audio (games included) on the computer. Apparently, the problem was not CPU, memory, or network latency related, and happened at random times with varying computer types and hardware.

This may or not be the cause of your WoW problems but if seems like sound drivers are not the issue sonce you've tried all of them. If you haven't done so yet, you may want to try your luck by deleting some of the asus bloatware (data security manager especially) or even a clean install.

Interesting article.... and for info, I am running on a "clean" install of Vista, having used the recovery DVD (and turning off when prompted for drivers CD , then installing drivers manually) so no bloatware at all.

Am about to swap out the G1s HDD and install XP Pro as I've just about had enough of the problems with Vista on this machine. Not a good combination in my experience!
