I was attempting to do a recovery from a factory state using the restore partition. I hit F9 and all I get is a blinking dash at the top right hand corner of my screen.

So, I reboot after waiting a half hour and getting nothing.

Now, Windows will not load. All I get is the blinking dash.

I do not have my recovery DVD. I cannot use the system restore partition.

    HALP.

    Standalone Windows installation DVD/CD....

Why do you not have your recovery DVD?

It's about 75 miles east of me. AKA: my parents house. I left it there on accident.

I'm running the new Gutsy Gibbon Tribe 5 release of Ubuntu and so far so good. I deleted the damn partition with the backup on it as it was set for primary boot, which would explain why I couldn't get to my vista partition.

After I install Ubuntu and get GRUB on here I should be OK.

    I hope.

Everything's peachy again now that I have the GRUB boot loader installed.
