    Hi all,

recently purchased a G1S and and was wondering how to activate the gaming utilities for this laptop? i.e. turn on the lights on the side of the screen and show date/time on keyboard display?

i assumed these options would activate automatically while playing a game..?

uh they should, if not on the toolbar on the bottom right of the computer (where is shows time, wireless, etc.) there should be an icon with the a red eye and black background (you might have to expand the bar). Its called Direct console.Click it and your options are there. If its not in the toolbar, search for it in the start box and open it. To me I turned off the lights because they were to annoying and useless but the time on the bottom is a good option.

okay so i installed Direct console, and the time is showing. But i cannot seem to get the lights to work. Is it because im using daemon tools instead of a physical game dvd?

ok lights were flickering when i accessed Asus Lifeframe (camera tool).. but they still wouldn't turn on when I play the game. I think it might have something to do with the direct x settings?

The game I'm testing with is Black and White which is fairly old.

You need to turn them on from Direct Console. Then, they blink every 1-2 seconds when your gaming, or accessing the CPU a lot. Daemon Tools should be fine.

trust me, lights aren't that cool and you shouldn't be stressing over it. My guess is you will think its cool initially but after, it'll just be annoying.

You people trip me out. How can the lights be annoying? You can't even see them for crying out loud! Do you have eyes that come out of the side of your heads?

if ur in a class taking notes, maybe sneaking a game or using lifeframe, would the people sitting next to u and the prof like to see blinking green lights?
I don't think so... Plus, it just wastes power

Yeah I can second the lights being a little annoying. I had the lights on for about the first two weeks when I bought my G1, and after that the novelty wore off. They are a nice feature don't get me wrong and I use them occasionally, but most times they are off. Also, make sure you have Direct Console running if you want the lights on. In the console you can make tweaks to your liking.
