I'm pretty sure a lot of you guys that own the G1S notice the noise coming from the notebook. Would upgrading the harddrive produce less heat and noise or is it just the fans? I got the 2.2ghz duo 2 core, 2gb memory, 160gb 5200rpm harddrive not sure what brand and the 8600gtm.

The fan in the back and the DVD drive make the majority of the noise. Changing the HDD won't do a thing.

I would try cleaning out the fans, it can get pretty dusty in there. I cleaned up my friend's G1S a while ago, it was pretty bad.

Ahh I see, I know the dvd drive makes a lot of noise but the fans make a lot even without the dvd drive. Lol at the sounds the G1S makes on bootup in the quiet study section of the library. It makes it seem like I just turned on a huge fan.
