How do you like the build of your G1S? I saw one in Best Buy and it look like a toy to me. :( Does it feel as fragile as it looks or was my eyes deceiving me. I'm not turned off by all the green. Just it looked real fragile to me. Is it?

The G1S seems fairly sturdy to me. I take it with me everywhere. So far, it has been on 2 longer airplane flights as well as numerous extended car trips. I take it with me everyday on the bus to work and back again. I use it extensively in these different environments, both for work and for leisure. The only protection it has for this traveling is the backpack it came with. So far, I have no scratches dents or dings to report.

I can't imagine the G1S being flimsy or fragile. People apparently poke fun at the F3sv I own as being "budget" and "cheap" but it feels rock solid...so the G1S must be like like titanium alloy :) :p

I don't think its flimsy either. Pretty solid. It's a good performer. I've had mine a few weeks now and love it! I was contemplating the c90s but really glad I got the G1S

Agree with the above. Solid build, but in my experience not such a good performer so far!

I think I'm in the minority here, but I feel like my G1S is a little on the flimsy side. When it is closed, you can poke down on the back of the LCD and it has a *huge* amount of travel. It doesn't damage the LCD obviously, but I don't feel confident that it would survive something even marginally heavy falling on it. In the reflection on the cover, you can see lots of visual distortion from the amount of movement in the plastic.

The keyboard also feels flimsy and cheap to me. I guess time will tell, but it doesn't seem like the keys will stand up to any abuse at all. The weird bulge in the keyboard is visually annoying as well.

Other than those two issues, it's a pretty good laptop though.

Those two issues are especially in comparison with my girlfriend's old fujitsu S2010 which was marginally better, and especially with her new HP dv2500t, which is unbelievably solid (it's like a rock, which is really surprising for an 1100 budget laptop). But if I were to rate the HP and the Asus in terms of build quality (1 to 10) I'd give the Asus like a 5, and the HP a 7.

Thanks for your input. More is always welcome. I need it to be able to take the many trips I have lined up in the future. It must be durable. When I picked it up at Best Buy, it felt fragile. Plus the one at Best Buy was an "Open Item" and it looked like it was through a war.

I've had the laptop for a week for about a week and a half.

I've came from using a sony laptop and I have to say that I am thoroughly impressed. The build quality is good.

It isnt as childish as some reviews have suggested and some of the extra features like the messenger update in the info area is incredibly handy

I haven't played either of those on my G1S yet, but I did play through both on my desktop, which is decently weaker than the G1S, and both played with almost full settings no problem.

    For reference, my desktop = Athlon64 2800+ (1.8ghz) 1gb RAM, Geforce 6800GT OC'd

gets 2149 3dmark06, and averaged about 42fps on the FEAR performance demo, at 1280x960 with all settings at or near max.

And my G1S gets about 3800 in 3dmark06.

DOOM3 will be no problem at all. It runs considerably faster than FEAR.

I run Fear at 1440*900 maxed on most setttings except half on AA i think 2 instead of 4, also I turned down the shadows to medium, on 1280*1024 MAX everything, I maintain 30+FPS all the time

Thanks people for the input. Most expert opinion out there believe that computers that can reach 40+ FPS on games is okay and 60+ on games is considedred good and anything above 90+ is excellent on games like FEAR, High Life 2 and Doom 3.

So where the does the G1S live when you consider those numbers. The 40, 60, and 90 neighborhood. And do you have to tweak your settings to achieve the numbers you did?

Thanks again for your input. It's very valuable and appreciated. The people who have hands on and actually played with the system is the best source for info on the system.
