This is driving me up the wall. For the past couple weeks my G1S just randomly shuts down while I'm on it. The battery is fully charged (in fact the PS is plugged in) and I don't notice any excessive heat. Any ideas? It takes the notion of constantly saving your work to a whole new level. Now I need to save every minute out of paranoia (OK exagerrating a little on that one)

Ok I finally found another thread. I'll try and use compressed air to clean out the vents and such. I just ran Speedfan and Monitorview (laptop just randomly shut off about 3 min ago):
Unfortunately I don't know which of the speedfan settings are the CPU
Speedfan:
HD0 - 44C
Temp1 - 80C
Core0 - 53C
Core1 - 54C
Monitorview:
GPU - 76C
Any possible other ideas? Sorry I'm not too computer tech savvy
Thanks -
Your CPU temps are Core0 and Core1
-
You can use RMClock to get a clear reading of the CPU temperatures.
I don't have any good ideas about the problem... it's almost certainly hardware, though. It's not the usual stuff, RAM etc. -- that will just lock up the computer or BSOD. Looks more like a power supply problem. Is the power plug properly grounded etc.? -
is that 76'C idle temp? that sure is hot GPU u got there
-
76 idle GPU unfortunately is quite standard these days for many laptops...
-
Why everybody is talking about temperatures only.
There could be another reasons for random shut downs (rogue scripts for instance) -
Try installing the last driver for gpu , 177.66 it will reduce the gpu temps in idle u can get it here :

I agree with Oldman, this does not sound like an overheating problem, I would try investigating other possible causes first (like, clean power supply).

Thanks all for the replies.
I'll try the cleaning of the fans, vents etc to see if anything changes. If it doesn't then I'll be at a loss. I highly doubt it's a virus or similar as I protect my comp as much as I can and regularly run checks and auto update. I run (NOD, spyware blaster, spybot, adaware, Zonealarm, and a few others that run more in the background.)
Thanks again all. -

ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
I assume that ZA is your firewall - if it's the antivirus product, then it is highly likely that some problems you're seeing are from AV conflicts between NOD and ZA, although maybe not the shutdowns. -
I don't think software conflicts should cause the notebook to shut down -- but who knows...
Maybe it's a good idea to do a clean install, and then install:
a) firewall
b) antivir
c) antispyware
(one of each)
and a minimal application setup, and see if the problem goes away. It's always good to try to eliminate software first. -
Actually not that bad. I haven't noticed a slow comp at all. ZoneAlarm, NOD, and SpywareBlaster run in the background. All supposedly take little resources. Anything else is used upon manual activation (i.e. adaware, spybot, etc).

My old W2J had very similar problems. Turned out to be a problem with the motherboard right near to the power supply input. Battery was fully charged and the power plugged in.
If it keeps on doing it and it's in warranty I would recommend getting an RMA and getting them to sort it.
G1S randomly shutting down now...any ideas?
