I hope so. I have heard that the 21st is the estimated relase date.

I called and they said Asus told them they'd get them tomorrow. They ordered 30 but are only getting 10. They said if I buy but they don't end up getting them I can cancel for a full refund. I think I am going to bite.

Make sure if you guy one, you check the speed while unplugged. I just found out that my G1 runs 3x slower while running on batteries.

Well isn't that part of Intel speed-step technology, aka Centrino?

What do you mean 3x slower, the CPU speed? How are you calculating that? 3x sounds like a bit much.

However, I don't plan to run on battery life too much.

He's talking about his GPU underclocking. You can set the CPU at full clock using the high performance choice.

    I don't think that's really unique to the G1.

No, its not. But that was never stated anywhere when I bought the notebook. And while my XPS2 ran slower when unplugged, at least it wasn't so underclocked that I couldn't run my games back then. Asus is touting this as their gaming notebook. It runs SLOWER on battery than my Sony SZ160p. Granted, it runs WAY faster when on AC, but every time I go out, I have to change resolution, lower ALL the graphics to minimum to play while on the go. Then change everything back once I'm on AC again.

I made a comment in my other post, this is like buying a Lamborghini car for its speed. Then taking it home only to find out it auto shut-off half its cylinders to save gas while on the road, and will only activate all cylinders while on a racetrack.

Thank goodness I run WinXP 90% of the time, I'm pretty sure with my Vista Ultimate is runnings slower with all the graphics turned on when unplugged.

Yeah, I don't expect to use the GPU much when on battery, and I am looking forward to the 8600M GT's ability to slow down when on battery to extent life. If I am on battery, probably the only thing I will be doing is low intense work or watching movies.

    I bit :D

Yeah, next step is to procur Windows XP. Just met a guy who works at MS and can get an inexpensive copy at their store.

mryerse- Check around and make sure winXP works on the G1s. I was just thinking, its running a new chips, video card, and network card. All I'm sure doesn't have WinXP drivers. You can probably get by with laptop2go modded drivers once they come out, but dunno about the network wireless card.

Starstreak you can fix that by turning changing your GPU settings to not lower clocks when on battery. You can also tell the CPU not too clock down by changing the advanced options in Windows Mobility Center under battery.

Technically though, it will lower your battery life and make the laptop way to hot to play on your lap. When does one game without power though :)

Good point, but I don't think anyone has one yet, so I'll probably have to test it on my own. If it doesn't work than the cost of XP from the MS store will have been a small investment loss.

I found the date quite interested as well, since none of the dealers here(whom often give us a heads up about release dates when its very near) have yet to say anything.

link1313- I cna't find any options to disable the lowering of the GPU speed in winxp. Btw, as far as the Nvidia drivers is concerned, the GPU doesn't seem to be andjusted (using the nvidia monitor screens), but something is being turned down so it operates at a way lower speed.

I have direct contacts at ASUS. They have not been given exact ETAs on the G1S. The official MSRP of the G1S will be $1,999.

Okay. Then $1950 is a good deal ($1970 shipped). Hopefully you are wrong about the date. But if you are right, this is a low risk purchase as I will cancel on Friday if they haven't shipped yet, as I need a laptop by the end of next week, or I will go without a laptop and order one sometime in June.

I spoke with another guy from ExcaliberPC when they called to confirm my order. They seem prettey sure that they will get them by Friday.

"Within 2 weeks [from the 21st], we actually do not know when, there are issues being resolved."

No, the G1 will not get TurboMemory. Only business models have that option, for the time being.

I have the money to buy the G1s now.. im sure its the laptop i want. Should i go ahead and buy it from this place? Is it a good place to buy from? Or should i wait till another store has them in stock, at maybe a better price? Or will price be about the same everywhere?

They said they are only getting 10, so you might want to call first to make sure they have some. When I ordered mine yesterday, I was 4th or 5th.

I've never bought from them before, but they have really good ratings. I will let you know if it is a good experience or not. So far all I can say is that they are friendly people.

I will let you know if/when I get a tracking number.

I like the Gentec site, especially that they are offering the Seagate Momentus, but I'm not as familiar with them and I think they will take time to get the Momentus, so I ordered seperately.

Not sure, not as many sites are listing it for pre-order as the G1S so maybe not as soon as G1S. Give ExcaliberPC a call and ask, they have it for pre-order: 877-289-3972.

So it looks like the US DOES get the G1s before Europe, despite the initial information leaks. Although I can't claim any complete knowledge of the European suppliers' stocks, the Swiss sites that have an ETA are saying 21 June.

And please do post a review, or at least what you have found the G1s to be like with whatever you use it for (presumably at least SOME games). I'm pretty sure that many of us will be very interested to see that - I certainly am.

    Gentech is a great reseller.

Anyways, I imagine the G1S is just going to be the G1 with Santa Rosa correct?

Any news on a high end DX10 card?

The G1S has the GeForce 8600M GT.

Also, according to the specs listed on some of these sites, it looks like it also has HDMI and ExpressCard, which would be other improvements over the G1. Not sure if this has been confirmed yet or not though.

I imagine that can be adjusted to get better life, but I don't think you can expect amazing battery life with a big bright 15.4" screen, a GeForce 8600M GT, etc.
