Hello,
I'm looking for desktop replacement.
I was considering Dell Inspiron 1720 because of it's power and huge (WUXGA) resolution, which is very handy when it comes to working with designing programms such as AutoCad and stuff.
But today I saw Asus G1S, which costs a bit more, but as I can see from pictures, it has better build quality.
One of the concerns is relatively small screen for my work - 15" IMO is a bit too small and I would need to buy an external monitor (I'm currently using an 20" iMac and am tired of OS X).
The laptop would stay at home and rarely be carried around, so weight and size is not an issue for me..
Please help me decide.
Thanks in advance!

glad I'm not the only one, I have the same predicament.
I can get either the Asus G1S for £899 or the Dell 1720 upgraded to the T7700 CPU & 3GB RAM for £905.
Both have 8600M GT GPU but G1S is DDR3 rather than the Dell DDR2.
What do we do ?? -
G1S has TV/HD ports, dell has none... hmm....
-
Don't care about those ports.
I think I'll just stick with the dell, because of the bigger screen (the 1920x1200 resolution is just gorgeous) and for me a numpad is a plus too, because working with numpad is much easier.
Also I don't really like g1s nerdy/geeky carbon-everywhere look, but that's just me, I know it's build quality is better than the Dell's.
And in the end.. after a year or so both laptops will be in the same league power-wise, IMO. Performance difference between these two isn't that big, IMO. -
lol, but i havent heard of ASUS's notebooks battery exploding for nothing. ever since my friends battery caught fire, iv never looked up dell..lol
