I am in the process of researching a new laptop to replace my current one. I am really leaning towards either a G1S or a G2S but am having some trouble deciding which. I live in Hawaii so shipping from the mainland can be problematic. I did find a local place with a G1S for $1749, I could also get a G2S (through the mail) for a total of $2061 (includes shipping). For those of you who know more about these two computers than I, is the additional money worth it?

As for use, I am not a major gamer, mostly The Sims2, etc. Internet use and downloading, office type work, etc. However after buying for price rather than quality last time I have said I will not do that again. This time I want a laptop that will last me a few years. (I currently have a Compaq).

    Thanks for any ideas.
    Cindy

Just depends on what size screen you want.

    Go for the 17" :D

    the G1 are 15" the G2 are 17"

are you planning to do a lot of travelling?

if you don't mind a bit of heft then go for the G2. thats the one i would choose personally. if it were my primary computer.

are you dead set on the ASUS?

double posting? tsk tsk tsk :p

theyre basically the same except for the color scheme and size

    G1S green lights 15.4"

    G2S red lights 17"

I think the G2S is better value, typical price for a 17" performer, the G1S is a bit expensive for its screen size.

Thanks for the great post. I am not totally set on Asus in fact today was the first I heard about it (just sounded nice). I do travel a bit but the case I use for it has wheels so I can handle the weight (especially if the computer is worth it). Do you have anything else you would suggest?

If you want 15": Sager NP2090 (Compal IFL90)

For the 17": look at the Sager NP5790 (Clevo M570RU)

both are available at www.xoticpc.com, however, their site appears to be down atm, so I can't give you their price
    at www.Sagernotebook.com you can get a NP2090 (T7500, 250GB HD, TV tuner, 2 GB RAM, 8600M 512MB, 3 year warranty, bluetooth, DVDwriter and Vista Premium, 15" @ 1280x800) for $1828. A bit above the G1S, but it's better equipped I guess :)
The NP5791 (update of the 5790) with 17" @ 1680x1050, T7500, 8700M 512MB, Vista Premium, 2 GB, 250GB HD, DVDwriter, bluetooth, Fingerprint reader and 3 year warranty, would cost you $2358. The 300 dollars difference with the G2S are probably the 3 year warranty :)

Xoticpc might offering them cheaper, so check out their site when it's back online :)

Toshiba X205 comes with the 8700mGT which is faster

there's also the Asus C90s with its customizable parts

    Dell 1520 with the 8600mGT

the last two are 15.4" laptops, the X205 is a 17"

but does it have a 8600M or an 8700M?
    forgot to check that :)
if it's a 8600M, the rest won't matter much: the 8700M in the Sager would kick its ass :p

with games like the sims, the GPU (graphic card) doesn't effect game performance much at all. it is the CPU that really matter with the sims 2. so you need a powerful CPU, i really don't think u need 8600 or 8700 gpu. try to get a laptop with 2gb of memmory.

do you consider buying an apple product? mac os x? i would consider a Macbook pro if this is your primary computer.
if not then something like lenovo thinkpad, hp business notebook, etc. are all a great laptop.

Thanks for that bit of advice Wobble, the info on the CPU is definitely a HUGE help as that is my big thing. I have recently gotten into Second Life, etc also. I do want to stick with Windows but with lenovo and hp are there any you would suggest.
    *off to research both*
