I have purchased the the Patriot PSD22G6672S (PC5300 2GB) from Newegg for use in my Asus G1S-A1 laptop. Whenever the memory is in the laptop (either alone by itself or with the existing 1GB module it came with) the computer does not reboot successfully. It doesn't even reach the bios screen, holding down the power button for several seconds and then turning it on again fixes the problem usually.

When it has the stock memory it seems to work just fine, just that when you take it all out or mix-n-match it with the new Patriot it acts weird when you reboot. Putting it in standby with it works fine, its just when you do a full reboot that it doesn't completely restart. The screen is black and only the ASUS on the mini oled lights up. So then like I said holding down power and trying again fixes it, but every time you reboot you have to do it.

I ran Memtest86 on it and it worked fine and passed.

Also, in CPUz it says the speed is only about 325 MHz, and 166 when on battery saving mode. I thought it should be 667MHz?

So could this be a problem with the memory or the laptop? If anyone else upgraded, what memory did you guys use?

    Thank you.

Sometimes memory is incompatible with a particular setup or BIOS, it happens - sounds like you're experiencing that since the Patriot goes awry with either solo or mixed install, but the system is normal with stock RAM; I doubt it's a problem with your G1. You could either RMA and try a second stick, or switch to another manufacturer - Crucial, Corsair, OCZ, Kingston are some of the major players.

For the CPUz issue, Power4Gear may be modulating the clock speed which would give you the various numbers you're seeing. This is normal, and doesn't reflect a problem with the RAM to my knowledge.

I think I have the same exact memory you're using on my G1, it works for me with no problems whatsoever, but I dont know whats new in the G1S (new bios, I think?), maybe its the memory, but you said you get no errors on mem86. So yah I guess you should get a new stick like ClearSkies suggested.

Also mine says 166mhz but thats right I think since thats bus speed not fsb (which is supposed to be 667mhz)

When I first got my G1S I had the exact same problem as you did. I got 4GB of RAM from my dealer with the laptop (so technically it is not the stock memory). I personally had one bad stick of RAM which threw off the entire system. One of the things that I learned was that the G1S was only tested for a few brands of RAM including Micron (the ones I have) and are shown to work. All other brands are not fully supported, yet. BTW, this is directly from an ASUS Rep.

I don't think that you have a bad stick, I just think that the current BIOS does not support it.

    Thanks guys for your help.

That's what I was thinking too, it might be something with the bios.
I have Bios 203, I updated it from 202 thinking it might fix it but nothing.

I think I'll just return it and get a Corsair or a Crucial instead.

    Test your memory first.

use memtest or RAM probe. Dont do anything until you know that the memory is faulty...use those programs

Yea, I ran it through Memtest and the windows memory check. Both said it was fine.

Now the newegg RMA wants to charge me 18 dollar restocking fee... :|

I'm still waiting on a reply from Asus, once I get that I'll see what to do. Who knows, maybe another new bios update will fix it?
