I got my g1s. I cleaned home premium off its partition and installed vista ultimate on there. first off, I would like to know what driver/program makes ASUS function buttons work. (ex. Fn + f12 for volume up) and also the asus sybol below my touchpad doesn't light up anymore.

Also, what is a good partition program for vista so I can the vista-os partition larger and install xp on the other partition.

One last question, I'm installing xp on my g1s and a need to know what program I need to allow me to choose which os to boot.

    THANK YOU

that is the file name for the drivers for the hotkeys. I just downloaded it the other day, and it wasn't where I expected it on the G1 DL site. I think it was listed under "utilities"

My personal recommendation is to insert the driver cd and it will come up with a list of drivers that are applicable and tell you which ones are essential. Either install those from the menu or download the latest ones from asus.

I think the synaptics touchpad driver is required to make the "gamers eye" light up, when I formatted my laptop I couldnt get it to light up till I installed that.

Well this is how I do it:

    1. Install using the Recovery CD (Reboot when it asks for the driver CD) OR a Vista DVD

    2. Run windows update (I get an error with the driver CD installer if I do not do this, This problem doesn't exist with newer versions of vista install media afaik)

    3. Insert the driver CD and uncheck all the boxes of the software you don't want installed (I reccomend Norton IS, Adobe Reader 7.0, Asus Live Update)

    4. Click Install and do not reboot untill the driver CD installer asks you to reboot (Takes a while)

Actually, if you want to dual-boot, you should have cleaned the hard out and then installed XP first on the main partition and then Vista on the second partition. Once Vista is installed and the computer restarts, you will get a prompt right after the BIOS prompts allowing you choose which OS to boot into.

I already put ultimate on there. I have all drivers reinstalled for it. I just want to make the partition larger so I have more storage on vista and I want to make the data partition my XP partition. therefore, I need a partition program for vista and I need to know how to set up the dual boot after installing xp

I wish I could help ya there. I have zero experience in resizing partitions and/or how to make a dual boot system with Vista installed first. I got lucky with my system one day when I decided to re-install XP and then decided to install Vista (because I got the upgrade free from Asus) on the second partition. I then read somewhere (here in these forums) that this was the easy way to make a dual boot system. I just happened to stumble across it.

I shrank my data partition to 40gb but it just turns the extra space into free space. It wont let me add the extra to my vista partition
