    Hi,
I just got my g1s and when I tried connecting an external hdd through usb 2.0, it would not appear under computer (nor did the "safely remove hardware" tray icon pop up). Connecting it through esata (while powered through usb) worked just fine. I tried to connect another external hdd without an esata port and it was not recognized either. I upgraded my bios and installed all the drivers off of the included cd and it still doesn't work. Did anyone have the same problem?

My external drive came with a single to 2 prong usb cable, in some cases a single usb port is not powered enough to spin up the drive requiring the use a of a second USB connection....

Even to run eSata the same drive requires the usb helper cable!

Another option for my particular drive is to power it with an external ac adapter, it's a separate purchase however.

I already tried connecting it through a single 2 prong usb cable, but it wouldn't work either. Thanks for the advice though.

Odd perhaps they are not formatted yet?
Do they show up in disk management at all?
The four USB2.0 drives I have connected to my G1S thus far have all worked as intended.

They work fine on another computer, so it's not a problem of formatting. Do you have the original Vista Home Premium installed that came with the laptop or another OS?

Do you have any other usb devices you can try on the G1S's ports? It's likely the usb ports on the laptop that are the problems (either not enabled in the BIOS or not configured properly in Windows or driver issues)
