so, i put in my order for the asus g1s with an upgraded hard drive from xoticpc.com last week and it's currently sitting in earth city, missouri. according to ups tracking, it should arrive at my doorstep this friday. i must admit, i'm extremely excited.

anyway, in order to catch up on all the years of gaming i missed out on due to my desktop's painfully archaic specs, i plan on purchasing a few games once it arrives. for one, i'm definitely getting valve's source premier pack, which includes half-life 2, cs: source, and dod: source. as an avid 1.6 fan, it really sucked that i couldn't play any source games over the last few years due to the lack of a solid gaming computer...which is why the source pack will be the first thing i buy.

secondly, i plan on picking up battlefield 2, another title i couldn't play due to my desktop. i loved 1942, and have heard excellent things about dice's sequel, but i never got to experience it. other than the terrible glitches i've heard about, i'm sure it's gonna rock.

finally, i'm renewing my subscription for WoW for one month just to actually run it on a good system for once. i put way too many hours into WoW on my desktop, but i always had to run it on all the lowest settings and incessantly lagged out.

other than that, i am looking forward to eventually picking up company of heroes and command and conquer 3. it feels great to be able to catch up on years of gaming with my new asus g1s.

because i really like the community here (i would never have known asus made notebooks if it wasn't for you guys), i would love to know what other games you all play. and if anyone has played source games, bf2, and wow on their g1s, does it run smoothly on the highest settings? anyway, i know this thread isn't necessarily directed to a question or topic about asus notebooks, but i just would love to know what games asus fans enjoy.

Age of Empires was always fun, plan to load up AOEIII when mine arrives. Great game, played it on another computer, but with low specs only, and it was still pretty awesome.

Love BF 1942, especially after I dwnloaded several custom skins. Game looked awesome even on my desktop at only decent settings after that. Should definitely look at 1942 skins at filefront if you haven't already. Like you, I'm definitely going to get Valve source pack too, C&C as well, maybe oblivion, maybe BF2, probably FEAR.... I'll get them all eventually. :)

I highly recommend AOEIII if you are looking for another game.

By the way congrats on the system!

I was playing BF2 last night (run as admin in Vista!). I ran it at 1400x1050 (which was the max rez that BF2 had) with pretty much everything maxed. I got 50-60 avg FPS, as high as 70, as low as 40. It was purdy.

You can max out Source pretty much no problem. Haven't tried HL2:LC (which uses HDR lighting), but it should run fine as well.

STALKER runs OK (20-30 FPS) at 1024x768 with dynamic lighting and other stuff at medium to high. Without the dynamic lighting, it should run very smoothly. Didn't play too much of it, so I can't comment on gameplay.

Supreme Commander is kinda sluggish. It runs fine (for my taste). It seems like an awesomely massive/epic RTS.

You should check out Civilization IV if you've never played it. Very addictive.

Nope only a few sections. First ones to get in were the Euro servers (Horde of course). You might want to try the game Americas Army AA for short. Its a great free game to play. Its a FPS with multiplayer. It mimics actual army confrontations with realistic guns, training missions, and tactics. Your Asus will DEFINETLY blow the game away. It also has a great community. I play WoW as well and its great for a random pickup game when you dont have time to do 15 quests. Only bad thing is you cant respawn :(

EDIT: My bad Cori proved me wrong.

Yea, that European guild downed Illidan almost a month ago, which is insane, considering the Black Temple raid instance was only released less then 2 months ago!

    Insane!

Bah, making me almost want to start up WoW again. I got bored and quit in those months after MC came out and nothing new appeared...

Solitaire...tetris...freecell...uhm....pacman's a good choice....oh, and 3d pinball (careful not to strain your computer too much with this one though..it's a killer!)

awesome, i'll definitely add aoeiii to my list of future games. like you, i also plan on getting a slew of titles down the road, including fear and maybe even stalker. plus, i'm highly anticipating installing 1942 on the g1s; it should be like playing an enitrely new game lol. i'll make sure to check out those skins too!

wow, if you ran bf2 with those settings smoothly, i am really looking forward to rocking it out friday. i'm really glad the g1s runs source perfectly because cs and dod (not to mention insurgency later this month), are some of the games i'm most looking forward to. i'm also pretty interested with stalker, though i have heard mixed things. as for supreme commander, i think i can live without the dynamic lighting on high to play it smoothly; you're right, from the little i have played it, it is incredibly epic. gosh, i'll just have to add civilization iv to my list of future titles! thanks for all the input.

yea...nihilum is pretty much insane. it's funny how the EU guilds/servers tend to be the farthest ahead in instance clearing. i might actually start a new character in magtheridon lol.

Congrats on your soon-to-be new arrival! I did a similar thing, and bought a chunk of games I'd been dying to play (some for a few years now). I play Civ 4, Command & Conquer 3, F.E.A.R, Doom 3 and I have Far Cry, although the stealth aspect of that game (killed within minutes of starting on easy level!) has temporarily turned me off trying it further. These games run at max settings, except for F.E.A.R which is only a couple of notches off. They are BEAUTIFUL on the G1s!

I just ordered my G1S today and was about to pick it up the same day until I got a call saying that "They didn't finish their task". Their task which was to upgrade the hard disk.

What exactly happens if the HD is upgraded? Do they have to install Vista and drivers?

They also told me that upgrading the HD will void the Asus 2 year Global Warranty. Is this true?

i'm glad i'm getting all this great feedback on games fellow asus fans/g1s users enjoy. on the topic of games, if anyone here has xfire, feel free to send me an add at undoingruin15.

to add to this discussion, what FUTURE games are you all interested in? although there are a bit too many for me to think of off the top of my head, i must say i'm really looking forward to crysis...i know i'm only going to be able to run it on medium settings, but i'm sure crysis on medium will blow away even the most taxing modern games out today.

another game that is NOW on my radar is infinity ward's call of duty 4: modern warfare. although i loved cod and cod2, i think cod3 was overkill. i played through it on the 360 and, although it improved on cod2's already solid gameplay, it paled in comparison on the epic scale. and to be honest, that's what the cod series is all about! i wasn't necessarily looking forward to cod4, even when i found out it was going to try and be fresh by mixing it up with the setting, but after watching this gameplay footage...i was completely floored:

    http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/13757/Call-of-Duty-4-Modern-Warfare-Gameplay-Footage/

i know the footage is probably running on a 360, but i imagine it will look the same, if not superior, on the pc.

other than that, i'm really looking forward to the insurgency source mod, bioshock (though i will probably get it for the 360), ut3, world in conflict, and overlord.

but yea, crysis is going to be one of the most amazing gaming experiences since i first loaded up halo: ce or gears of war or (dare i say it) the original half-life.

    share your thoughts!

you can either opt to have the place you bought it from re-install vista using the os recovery disc asus provides (which usually delays shipment a few days) or you can request to reinstall it yourself (which is what i did). and as far as i assumed, the installation of a different hard drive didn't void the warranty, though i could be mistaken.

Upgrading the HD takes about 10 minutes, tops, and then installing windows takes about an hour-2hours-3hours, depending on your luck.
No upgrading the HD does not void the warranty. Who told you that?

Well, Danny from Canada's MilestonePC is wrong. I have contacted Asus personally and checked. RAM and HDD upgrades do not void the warranty.

hmm, that's a bit odd. i was pretty sure it wouldn't void the warranty. i picked up my g1s from xoticpc.com and they didn't include anything regarding a void. you should double check with milestonepc because i honestly think they're misinformed.

The thing is, it's not voided, but there is a VERY VERY VERY SMALL chance it will be if it screws up. That small chance could vary from a small electric shock from installing the HD, or from a bad upgrade part. Because of that, they are being cautious and say it will be voided. Because in worse case scenario, the warranty is voided and they(MileStonePC) can be sued for frauding the customer of their warranty.
