Hello, I am sorry to be asking this question, but I have been hearing a lot of news about all the different types of 8600's as well as types of gpu ram like DDR2 and DDR3 and GDDR3 ... anyways, my question is which type exactly is the G1S 8600GT ? And, does anyone have any specs on it. Such as, core, ram, shader speeds (of course all stock) ?

I have been using my G1S for about 2 weeks now and I have no complaints and I already beat FEAR and X.P. played at the max settings. So it meets my expectations, however I just wanted to fill my curiosity.

    Thanks for the help.

It's GDDR3. Fastest version of the 8600M GT.

I believe the speeds are 475/700, but if you install nTune you'll get all that information + the ability to overclock (575/780 works great).

At the moment, only DDR2 and GDDR3 8600GT's exist.

    From what we know,

    DDR2
    Compal IFL90/Sager 2090
    ASUS C90s
    ASUS V1s
    ASUS F8sv(potentially?)
    Zepto 6224w
    Dell 1520/1500
    Dell 1720/1700

    GDDR3
    Apple Macbook Pro
    ASUS G1s
    ASUS G2s

Ok... I had no problem that he hadn't searched. Sometimes even via search it can be difficult to get solid answers. I had no problem answering his question, and in fact I posted my answer before you posted your complaint.

It's not like people who ask questions (even one's answered before) are taking up our valuable time, if we have enough time to read/write on a forum, then we have plenty of time to spare :p.

thank you again for the extra info on the speeds. Much appreciated.

Quick questions on the nTune though:
    1. would you recommend a reliable place to download that from?

    2. Is it fairly easy to use for a moderate computer user, or would I need a bit of extra computing knowledge?

    3. does the overclocking (at the speeds you posted or lower) put a lot of extra strain on this card ( I have heard all video cards handle overclocking differently, some you can a lot some you cannot at all )

    4. And lastly, would I need new drivers for overclocking or can it be done with the "stable" stock drivers (if "yes" for the new drivers needed, could you recommend a "stable" driver?)

**And thank you again for the help. I know I coulod have done more research on my own, but asking for the advice on a forum such as this can usually give more accurate information. Since I did do a search for the G1S and I have seen it listed (by other users as DDR2, DDR3, and GDDR3) I got confused so I did like many others would. I came to the ASUS forum and ask a question in hopes for a informative answer from knowledgable people (with spare time on their hands of course ). Anyways thank you !

    1. nTune is a nVidia application, directly from them. So you'll find it on their website.

    2. Everything you need will be in the nVidia Control Panel. Which you can get into by right clicking on the desktop and selecting it. There will be a new menu option in the panel called "Performance". You'll have to press accept to the end-user terms.

    3. It will make the gpu hotter, so make sure you're in a ventilated place so the temperature doesn't get too hot. Anywhere from 75-93C should be ok, but above that is too much. nTune will install a monitor you can open up to see the temperature if you wish.

    4. Either the stock drivers on the Support DVD or the latest drivers for the G1S on ASUS's download website will be sufficient. Newer drivers at this point are only available for the desktop PC video cards, and then "hacked" to support mobile gpu's. And on the most recent drivers you are unable to overclock. So if you want to overclock stay with ASUS one's.
