Man..just when I was feeling good about the G1S-A1 and almost ready to buy it I read something that made me pretty upset  . I'm sure you all know about the throttling issue and know more than I; has it been fixed?

From what I understand, and correct me if I am wrong please, if I use the laptop on battery power for a hr then plug it into the wall and play a game, I'll only get 50% cpu power? That seems like such BS. Given that the battery life of the thing is only 2.5 hrs the user would be using the ac adapter with less than 90% battery power almost all the time!

Does this really effect users as much as I think it would? This is a really big purchase for me and want to get this cleared up. I really don't want to buy a gimped product from the start, with the hopes it'll be fixed.

    Thanks all

Well you can control what speed your cpu is with simple programs, or even the basic Windows Power Options.

So idk why you're having problems with your cpu speed.

I play all the time while charging under 90% and I don't even notice the difference, so I don't even worry about it. To be honest I don't even care if they fix it or not...

I guess I should point out I got the information from the Asus.G1S.Resource.Thread specifically problem #1:

50% CPU performance cut when you recharge on AC power.

    Details:

It seems the processor runs at almost half capacity anytime the ac adapter is plugged in and the battery life is less than 90%(+/-). G1S owners can test this themselves by draining the battery roughly less than 90 % and running a cpu extensive benchmark like super-pi or 3dmark, while plugged in on AC. You will notice that your cpu marks will have been drastically reduced from what it would be on 100% battery. This is because the processor will only run at an estimated 1.2 ghz instead of the rated 2.2. This problem does not occur when the battery is removed...only when it is charging does this flaw surface. Some have theorized that this is due to the inability of the 90w power supply to run both the notebook's power demands as well as charge the battery, thus the cpu power consumption was reduced.

    --------

So mcs6, 50% cpu power doesn't affect gaming? Can anyone say how quickly laptop charges from 90% to 100% during use? Sorry for all the questions

So there's absolutely no program that one can use to change the cpu speed while in this state?

A workaround is to use RMCLOCK to disable the thermal protection according to the guys who looked deep into the problem. I can't say for certain if that'll fry the CPU or not but it doesn't sound like a good idea to me.

    Riot,

I'm not saying theres not a decrease in performance. I just have never ever noticed it, even when I look. No telling what the decrease in FPS is, but I don't really care because it hasn't really affected me.....yet.

There's a reason why that solution was suggested. It's been tested NOT TO FRY YOUR CPU... I've been using it for at least a month now, and the CPU is now fine. However, if you think about it, the CPU throttling isn't bad since you want every single shard of battery life. Also, as everyone said you shouldn't really notice the difference that much as long as your plugged in and using the Power4Gear High Performance option.

Thank you everyone for the info. This is a great forum with truly helpful people! Definitely a lot friendlier to the noobies than my usual hangout ;)
