Has anyone else had this problem? I'm using 169.04 drivers and set to high performance mode. It's very problematic when gaming, because the effect is essentially frames of animation lost.

It's tied specifically to the temperature of the gpu it seems, the higher it gets this problem occurs. I just want to make sure I'm not the only one experiencing this, and if anyone has figured out a way to disable the "Slowdown" the gpu automatically triggers at certain temperatures.

Also, when I overclock the gpu this happens faster, meaning less time running smoothly.

I really haven't heard anyone complaining about this with their G1S, so I'm concerned it may be an issue specifically with my laptop.

Obviously you will experience frame loss as the gpu gets hotter. Don't overclock or use a cooler.

This happens even with no overclocking. And I have no problem with framerate loss, that's understandable.. But skipping is something else entirely..

Have you tried contacting Asus? They are the first people you should call when you have problems. They can diagnose the problem better, and get your system out for a repair quicker.

Well I want to make sure if this is common or not before going that route. Typically the one's you speak to can't really tell you anything unless they take a look at your system. That requires shipping it off and not having it for school for a week or more. Of course that's assuming whom you talk to is the technician or just a call handler.

Don't get me wrong, Asus support is amazing. My first G1S had defective parts (RAM and HDD were both defective). I just don't want to assume something is wrong in my system unless I hear from other G1S owners if they have or don't have this issue.

I'm having the same problem in WoW. It runs fine for a while, then as the system heats up the frame rate is still about the same but the game itself looks like its only showing every other frame and is not smooth at all. Are you having the same symptoms?

Yeah exactly the same. It's odd though, last night for some odd reason it didn't skip at all. It wasn't being cooled any better, the temperatures were still hitting 88C to 92C, and the CPU temp. was also the same.. I even overclocked and it was smoother and never skipped.

But, as soon as I restarted the system it was back again... I'm hoping that's a sign of it being some type of software component causing this "skipping" rather then something on the G1S hardware (because there's really nothing we can do in that case aside from stuff that could damage our systems).

I'm going to try out some RMClock modification, because that's the only real method of altering any hardware without flashing firmware/etc. I'll only use it by the guidelines of other users on the forums..

I hope more people will contribute to this thread though, and offer their own experiences and advice. Now that I've found a 2nd person with the exact same problem this isn't exclusive to me.

I can play FEAR for hours with GPU at 98 degrees celsius without skipping frames.

I have a G1S and my GPU temp regularly gets over 90C. I haven't had any problems like this, though. I think it may just be your system.

    Hey hey,

I've had similar problems and have tried some things which have either solved the problem or made it less apparent.

First of all disable powermizer in the nvidia control panel. With the 169.x drivers powermizer has been known to cause problems.

Second, try and keep tripple buffering on in all of your games. This has made a huge difference in framerate. You can do this through d3doverrider which comes with rivatuner.

Also, refer to this thread and try some of the solutions.
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=172717

Specifically I used the Negative LOD fix and Vsync Prerender Limit fixes.

Also make sure you don't have any of the infamous asus bloatware running cause that has been known to cause lots of skipping due to unnecessary hdd access. Defrag too.

    Hope some of this helps.
    Good luck.

I always keeps my notebooks in high performance mode at all times, this makes a huge difference when gaming, sure it will eat up more battery but your games will run much smoother.
