I got it before school started. I immediately upgraded it to vista ultimate and set it up to dual boot XP as well.

I am having a problem though. I can't get the microphone to work. I'm sure it has one built in right? well in AIM video chat my microphone doesn't work or pick up sound at all. Also, the built in sound recorder doesn't record anything when I tried it out. I didn't see anything about a microphone in device manager so I don't know what to do at this point.

    Can anyone shed some light?

    Thanks

Are you sure the drivers are installed? Try reinstalling them if they are and see what that does.

The really dumb suggestion first, are you sure the mic is not muted in the Volume Controls?

    :hits forhead:

well I discovered that there is a microphone and it is installed. It was muted in the volume control so I unmuted it. But, when I tried using sound recorder again, it didn't work. I went back, and it was muted again by itself. I didn't do this. why is it muting itself?

Maybe a bug with the driver or sound recorder... or some other app that uses the microphone is messing with the settings... I'd try different drivers as well.

I do own a G1S-A1 and haven't actually had the same problem with that computer. However, I did have the problem with another computer.

The problem: I found out that the application Skype was preset to auto-adjust the microphone volume/settings. I too had stumbled on the microphone volume and noticed it was muted/unchecked. However, even when I reenabled it, Skype would unenable it

The solution: I adjusted skype to not auto-adjust in the settings options menu.

If that is the solution, then my intuition "or some other app that uses the microphone is messing with the settings" was correct. :)

Indeed, and it was EBE that reminded me of my former troubles with skype!
