There are a few models of the G1S out there. I know they just release the new B1, which is the ideal computer for my but too much $$$.

But whats the difference between the A1, X1 and the new X3. They look like the same computer!

I looked at Bestbuy website and it doesn't say another useful.

    So what gives?

The A1 is Asus' standard model of the G1s. Its specs, and the specs for the B1 are available at the Asus website. In short, the A1 has the T7500 CPU and a 160GB 5,400 RPM hard drive. The B1 is the same, but has the T7700 CPU and a 200GB 7,200 RPM hard drive. Both come with the back pack and game mouse.

The X models are Best Buy house models only. The X1 came with the T7300 CPU and a 160GB 5,400 RPM hard drive. The X3 is I believe the same as the A1. None of the X models include the back pack or mouse.

The X models also only come with a one year warranty, if I am not mistaken. The A1 and B1 come with one year accidental and a second year standard warranty.

    Good point, forgot about that.

Similarly, I think you have to go through Best Buy for warranty service on the X models. Some have complained about the quality of that service, so another consideration.

There is one cool thing about the G1S-X1. its that the local (washington DC) Best Buys have discontinued carrying them and put them on warehouse clearance (its when they put it on clearance but dont show it on the shelves in order for the manufacturer to take a hit)

But if you are in the know you can pick one up. Go to your local Best Buy to the computer department and ask them to do an inventory search for part number 8397594 for local stores (its not oon the shelf). The clearance pricing ranges from $950-$1250, 40-50% off the original sticker price. Dont take no for an answer if they tell you that the inventory numbers are off or that they shiped them out last week.

I went to two stores, both places claimed not to have them even through inventory was showing in stock and on clearance. We went into storage and both places magically had them after all. Im pretty happy with my G1S's that we got for $960 each+tax...
